PolyCast Episode 178: "Everything You Want to Talk About"

yes it would have be nice if Canada, Vietnam, Australia ,Pueblo and the Inuit where in but we already have 43 civs in game if those civs were in we would have 48 civs and I believe we have enough now it time to focus on the game it self also there the problem of too much civs and city overlap if anyone remembers civ 3 I believe there where 3 or 4 civs who could all found the city Baghdad not only that but language overlap as well.

Wait... Wait... Wait... Australia almost got in, but was replaced by Brazil???

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I just hope that Canada gets in. I admit that a lot of people around the world don't think that Canada deserves a spot, but we have been waiting for 5 CIV games and I'm slowly losing patience...

I think they should stop with the expansions but should include one final DLC combo pack for the fans:

Australia & Canada modern civs DLC

Honestly, African and Southeast Asian representation is needed, but we have so many fans from Canada and Australia that I think it would be really awesome to get those civs and testament to their loyalty to the series. Personally I don't care about the definition of Civ. It encompasses "cultural civilizations" as well as actual civs and as far as I'm concerned Canada/Aus are more than deserving. Got a ton of buddies from these two countries as well so even though I'm from neither I would buy it in an instant - and my guess is that a lot of people would and it would sell like hotcakes so from a marketing standpoint you can't lose

Just started listening - I didn't realize Rob Zacny was on the show (got in late for the stream).

Big ups to Rob, Three Moves Ahead is my second-favorite podcast - after PolyCast, of course.;) For anyone who wants more BNW-podcast action, the latest TMA episode is an hour and a half of BNW goodness!

It would be nice if we could get a Game of the Year DLC that includes past civs from the series:

Sioux - debuted in Civ 2
Hittite - debuted in Civ 3: Conquests
Sumerian - debuted in Civ 3: Conquests
Mali - debuted in Civ 4
Holy Roman Empire - debuted in Civ 4: Beyond the Sword
Khmer - debuted in Civ 4: Beyond the Sword

Throw in two or three more fan favorites: Pueblo, Canada and Australia.

Still a glaring hole in Africa even if this is done

it would be nice if they did that but let fraxis do something else for while and do we really need every nation to be represented in civ and no DLC please as some of us dont buy things online just make another expansion or do a complete verison with all of it in then say done.

:); this was Rob's second appearance on PolyCast. His first was a couple of years ago on Episode 120.

so close Australia, maybe next time

Now I'm curious what was in a cluster with Morocco. Morocco is awesome. I like it, but did we miss out on some African civs or other middle-eastern ones like Oman or something?

yes! around the 2:00 minute mark, just before they talk about the Farm Crash Bug being fixed in the Fall patch, they also fixed the "Modding in of new sounds"! anyone know what they mean by this, will we be able to put in .mp3 through XML?

That !!!

That would be a brilliant idea ! I'd surely buy without hesitation would such DLC come out ! Unfortunately, if they couldn't add the Pueblo at first, I don't think they'll be able to add it later. The Canada and Aussie civs are not necessary right now, and wouldn't respect the spirit of the "coming back" civs.

Quite a few of my questions got answered in this one, thanks so much! (though Motherland Calls was definitely a Civfanatics-wide question)

i think this new civ version is great, but..... 1 thing i miss, bigger maps. the orginal devoleper already said the no stack units policy could only work as intended on bigger maps, i expected a new map option at least 4 times bigger tahn huge. i keep deleting ai civs to create some space. and with the new caravans and cargo ships you need more empires. so pleaseeeeeeeeeee give us bigger maps

Good question, that would be a great addition.

about the "lets fix Germany and Japan" do they really need to be fixed at all ? Germany has overlap with the Zulu yes that is true but as some have pointed out Germany UA works for all eras while the Zulu UA only works for melee units which runs out at the Renascence as for Japan just scale the UA for BNW and your set although I will admit they could add a thing about Japaneses culture that would make it little better

This is where criticism about "eurocentrism" hits me: who cares if many civs are European, if they are made so boring and unappealing, it might just be better off without them. Especially when similar traits are passed on from game to game.

I am European and I almost never play the usual group of France, Germany, England. Spain is also 'meh'. Germany with its background is much richer than a barbarian-landsknecht spam civ. It is really a letdown.

I also think that when people say "European" they refer mostly to Ger/Fr/GB/E because these states exist today.
The Celts for example have more of the "unusual" appeal.
