The two-hundred-and-eighty-second episode of PolyCast, "Riveting Gameplay", features regular co-hosts Daniel "DanQ" Quick, Stephanie "Makahlua", Philip "TheMeInTeam" Bellew and "MadDjinn" with first-time guest co-host Hannah "Codex". It carries a runtime of 59m59s.

The summary of topics is as follows:

- 02m59s | Open Mic
Constructive criticism on the show's most previous episode leads to engagement on-air as well in a community forum.
- 09m43s | Senate
A handful of Civilization VI civilizations are each a handful in their own right: France, Germany (15m53s), Greece (25m17s), India (33m00s) and series newcomer Scythia (40m44s).
- 47m23s | Miscellaneous
CivV given a nod as the third most "replayable" video game (recorded for Episode 264), the series itself ranking second for "inside jokes" in video games (50m26s; recorded for Episode 264) and that moment of realization when CivVI's narrator learns his character did not survive the game's trailer (53m05s; recorded for Episode 273).

- Intro/Outro | Miscellaneous
Dyes to cast, something that shouldn't be and missing the mark.

PolyCast is a bi-weekly audio production recording live every other Saturday throughout the year, in an ongoing effort to give the Civilization community an interactive voice; sibling show ModCast focuses on Civ modding, TurnCast on Civ multiplay.

Not to gripe again, but it should be "previous episode", not "most previous episode". I like that you address the critique of the previous episode, though I did not criticize it. :D

Given that there is more than one episode previous to this one, the qualifier "most" is fitting.

I see what you did there. :p

Then "previous episodes" without the "most" makes more sense. #grammarnazi :)

But if one can say "most recent" episode, why can't one say "most previous" episode? Of course, they mean different things -- "most previous" arguably refers to the very first episode in the series. More common usage would be "earliest" but I kind of like "most previous." I suspect Shakespeare used it (he used almost every other word formulation; why not that one?).

No, because only one episode was and is being referred to -- not all previous episodes. :)

+1

Enjoy the listen one and all!

? Is it one or multiple? I'm confused. XD

Gorgo's agenda : She appears to actually function as "liking civs CURRENTLY in a war" / "disliking civs that are CURRENTLY NOT in a war" ; she calls up the player to complain only a few turns after the player concludes a war in which the human won.

Oh, yes. Whatever is wrong with her agenda, I dislike hearing it 5000 times each game, even though I never lost a war.

 on both accounts... if for no other reason than otherwise I'd be !

In all seriousness, yes, another example of more attention being needed on the implementation of a number of leader agendas.

There was a game of the month (England, Island Plates, Classical or Medieval Era start) where she taunted me the whole game because i didn't like to fight. I finally declared a Holy War against her in the late game and proceed to pillage/coastal raid all her spaceports, and managed to knock off several of her units. After 30 or so turns, we made peace. It was 10 or not many more turns after that that we became allies.

Dawwww. Dan, you held back on Japan for me. :P

I'm looking forward to hearing you folks discuss Japan's strengths and weaknesses on the next episode. Should be some interesting insights there.

Great episode as always. Glad I caught the live version this time. Although I still listened to the edited version, on break, at work.

Why do I have this sudden urge to preempt Japan on the next episode? ;)

:mischief:

I have played Gorgo a lot. Her agenda is a weaker one and the assessment happens every turn so she sort of goes -3/-4/-3/-4/-4/-4/-5 but it only goes to -6. Yes the screen spamming should be fixed but the agenda is fairly harmless, easy to overcome and the fact she is also a permanent Darwinist as a secret third Eugenia makes her good for those warmongers out there.

I guess I will listen to the poly cast.

EDIT Great session, snappy, better detail, good banter, what more can a person ask for

Germany and Monty agendas are similar in that their positive is +12 which is enough to get an early friend. All you have to do is hold back on envoys and luxuries and these nasty beasts will be you friends long enough for you to backstab them.

Surely you exaggerate, sir!
Must be less than 1500 times per game, even at marathon speed. :D

yeah, there is a way to get the AIs with "don't have X more than me, or X whatever mechanic" to be friendly early. Monte is a pushover if you don't bother getting luxuries. But at some point you want luxuries and even if he's already your friend, he'll still pop up to complain. Personally I think the pop ups to complain should be minimized when you're friends already 'cause it's a fast way to make me not be friendly after the timed friendship is gone. Ofc, I don't think we should have a timer on friendships or other diplo relations things. You are or you are not... give a min turn before you can remove it, and only let the AI remove it if they fall negative on the diplo points scale.

I don't know what you're talking about. I'm constantly calling up my RL buddies to ask them if they want to be friends for 30 more days. After that I call them again to reconfirm our friendship. If I forget, and they don't call me, I just assume they're not longer my friend :mischief:

Well, unfriendly, neutral and friendly are the 3 natural states and do not have timers just like in real life.

A denounced person is quite a special state and I now use denouncing myself carefully. The implications can be rather rewarding. A denounced state is a punishment and should have a timer on it.

A declared friend is also the same as is an ally. Both have benefits you do not necessarily want to last.
