They may or may not end up being nominated for a couple of podcasting awards, but their winning combination of entertainment and information continues. Daniel "DanQ" Quick, Makahlua, Imran Siddiqui and Annalee "Cartimandua" Barney continue to lead the panel of PolyCast, an official podcast of Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS), in its fifty-third episode. Joining them for "How Do Hotcakes Sell?" now netcasting is first-time guest co-host Ron "Sisiutil".

The summary of topics is as follows:

- 05m39s | News
Profiles on both the French and Spanish nations in Civilization IV: Colonization, the Civ4Col official website launched, and system specifications disclosed and Take-Two Interactive experiences some financial success in the third quarter of this year.
- 12m55s | Forum Talk
No events or quests in Civ4Col, why Civilization IV can't have the "fun nature" of Civilization: Revolution [Vault], and Tank and Anti-Tank units in Civ IV: Beyond the Sword being backwards.
- 28m21s | Senate
The approach to disbanding old units in Civ IV.
- 33m43s | Miscellaneous
What actors and actresses would you have in a live-action movie based on Civ (IV specifically).
- 37m14s | Research Lab
Older units that are not upgraded striking in the later Civ game.

- Intro/Outro | Miscellaneous
Nominating the show for two 2008 podcasting awards, the 'Best City' competition with the... challenge that is World Builder, and the most downloaded PC productions from August.

I figured I should comment on one of these PolyCast threads just to let you know that people are listening (as for me, every so often). :)

Seeing Sisiutil's name (like other shows with guest co-hosts) is very intriguing. One minor detail: I couldn't actually find a link to the podcast in the first post (finding the page isn't hard though).

I nominated PolyCast, BTW, for those awards...

:) The vast majority of our episodes have guest co-hosts on them: in fact, since Episode 11, only one hasn't had any (#44).

Hope you enjoyed this outing! How long have you been listening to the show on-and-off?

:o -- I hadn't caught that (still!) for some reason. Fixed.

Thank you, sir. :hatsoff:

ooooo.... and here I was looking forward to Sisiutil discussing with you guys about his ALCs.

Too bad there wasn't a ALC Topic.... ah well looking forward to (Girls playing Civ) GPC With Sid. :P.

I'm gonna predict the next GPC with air next Xmas. *shrugs* just makes sense... since the last one was release during Xmas that's all. (or was it? *Can't remember*)

True, Ron only mentioned an ALC in passing -- nothing about them in general, dedicated topic or otherwise. If and when he guests again (and hopefully it's when!), we can look into discussing it specifically.

ah well looking forward to (Girls playing Civ) GPC With Sid. :P.
:D

Yes, "Girls Playing Civ" was last year's PolyCast Christmas Special.

^Good luck getting an interview with Sid for GPC before next Xmas :P lol

btw would you mind providing information on how popular an episode is? Eg - number of views/downloads etc... I'm just interested that's all... I wonder how many Views This ep got with Sisiutil as a Guess Co-host.

This episode we had recorded a "Top 10" episode countdown for August (both PC and MC combined), but I shrunk it down to the top five due to time constraints. This is the first time that we had ever provided such a countdown with only passing reference to episode popularity in the past. I hope to continue to provide such monthly summaries going forward, and perhaps look back similarly on some other past months as well.

The primary reason we have still not gone so far as to disclose episode download numbers on the show is because of how incomplete a picture it is: we can only measure that which is downloaded from the (official) PolyCast website. Services such as iTunes do not provide such data to content owners/contacts (sigh :undecide:). As for this episode specifically, it has been out for less then a week so even download numbers such as we can measure are still only providing a preliminary figure. That said, it is presently doing a little better than average during the same time period for recent episodes (#50 exempt, of course :mischief:).

I have to ask ... what is wrong with a city of size 102! I'm assuming you were talking about this thread where I specifically said that WB was fine. The challenge wasn't to come up with a stupidly big city - but to see what boundaries you could push. I've been meaning to go back to that thread and post a city size 1 that had 20 specialists - that would really rock!

BTW - the most fantastic tile that I have ever seen in a game was corn on floodplains. Monty owned it and I was going to gift him biology just to see the 8 foods that it generated. No WB either as this was a HOF game.

Yes, ruff_hi, the thread you link to is the one that we were talking about... it's the one I've linked to in the opening post. We were reflecting a collective view that we prefer to see the best that can be reasonably realized and that doesn't include World Builder is all. The 102-size city shown in that thread was certainly worth mentioning whatever view we took on the competition, so we mentioned it. :D
