Portal 2 announced!

I saw! I called it as there was all that secret stuff going on the past couple of days too.

*jumps for joy*

Hopefully they take your escape from the lab into account, it would be amusing fighting zombies and combine with a portal gun

Edit: I wonder why certain letters are underlined in the steam announcement... drattmannh0nee

It's not coming out for a few years and it will take less than an hour to complete

That's cool, it was a good game. Though I'm kind of ticked off that we don't have a HL2 story update and the original Portal was slated to be involved somehow (or at least implied).

I totally called this. Although I expected it during GDC, not right before.

As for the underlined letters, they probably have something to do with the ARG. Maybe a username/password to the BBS?

I hope they are also working with Episode III. I hate to see the final series of Half Life 2 become vaporware.

On the same coin, I do hope valve sticks with the non-L4D source engine so that is Garry's Mod friendly (eg. able to use maps and models with no modification).

they had Left 4 Dead 2 out pretty quickly, I just wish they'd do something like that for the episodes

Its a puzzle game, your gun shoots portals. Its set in... er, I don't really know exactly when. Around this time period supposedly, as it is an advanced prototype tool.
Its set around the same time HL2 is, which is 30 years after HL1 which was in the 90's. So we can assume Portal is set in the near future. Portal 2 will be set ~100 or so years after the events of Portal 1

So what is this game about? From the screenshots of 'Portal' it looks like a futuristic shoot'em up.

Valve and Steam are going to release this game, along with a few others, on the Mac platform, so I'm looking for a new game.

Its a puzzle platformer as PrinceScamp said. You have a gun that shoots portals which are connected to each other. You have to use these portals to solve some physics puzzles and proceed onto the next room. There's more to the story than that, but the story is part of what makes the game so awesome, so I wont spoil it.

Definitely give the game a try. Its fairly short as it was brand new IP and Valve was cautious with it, but needless to say it was a huge hit.

I'm pretty sure HL2 is around 2010, I don't think Alyx is 30 yet, or that Eli was like 30 during HL1.

Also Portal is a short game, for the main story part anyways, there are a bunch of challenges and tons of custom maps too, even a porting of HL2 into Portal! But it is an awesome game made of win.

Ah you're right, my numbers were off -- HL2 takes place more like 20 years after HL1 which would put it at just about the present.

And yes, Portal is short, but it's also priced appropriately. I'm also guessing that Valve will have a sale on all their games when they release the Mac version of Steam. Watch for that.

It was always going to happen.

And @CG;
Unless Valve goes under, they will release it.

IDK, it's been a really long time. Even a really long time since they announced that they might be thinking about it.
