My wife was struck by the "bouncing to oblivion" that affects 10.4 machines that installed Quicktime 7.6. (Boy, was that a long couple of days). Someone on the Apple support forum has posted a workaround for the issue. It has resolved the issue for my wife. She did say that it took about a half hour to do but it did work.

download an older version of QT here:

Using Pacifist found here:
http://www.charlessoft.com/
Open the QuickTime731_Tiger.pkg file and used Pacifist to install the older QT over the new one. All you have to do is select replace when asked about files that are already there.
