Post War Mod(s)

I would say that we need two maps. One for the surface of Plutonia, and one for the underground (the Towelites, Moles). Only infantry should be able to go underground, and only the Towelites and moles can colonize the there. The underground map should consist of mostly impassable terrain, and the underground settlers could change it to passable terrain.

All Towelite units should be able to go both underground and on the surface, while only infantry can be sent down underground by the surface factions. The surface factions should be able to research a tech which all ows them to build settlers that can go underground. That tech should be high up on the tech tree, though.

But first we need a definite list of factions, with faction leaders, titles, cities, unique units, and unique techs. I suggest that everybody compiles a list for his own faction, then we'll see about the other factions later.

I suggest this faction list:

- The Lyconians
- The Towelites
- The FraFed
- The PluEmp
- The Specialists
- The Katz
- The Bathosians

And here's my faction:

Faction name: The Franch Federation

Leader: The Leader

Title of leader: Leader

Unique units: Prism Soldier, Prism Tank, Prism Fighter, Mobile Pizza Shield (The tech for building Prism units should be given via an event, since it was given to the FraFed from the Lyconians.)

Unique techs: Everything related to Pizza Power

City list: (cities in italics aren't necessary, but still there in case they're needed)
Fjellstad
Nidaros
Bodo Major
Neo Narvik
Vinkenes Minor
Kristiania
Ny Tromso
Svalbard (island city)
Rolvaag
Bjorgvin
Hamarby
Nordfold Minor

BTW, has anybody asked PE about his map? If not, I'll PM him and ask him for it.

The underwater map will be included in the underground map. Only what's under the continents should be colonizable. The rest will be deep ocean. This means that also submarines can go "underground". Maybe underwater transports could be an idea?

The Towelite factions did not start going underground until after the meteor impact. At that point they lost Towelie and had a major shift. Thanx to ToTs scripting, it would be rather easy to write in the meteor impact.

Towelites:

Leader: Towelie then Poseidon then ?

Governments:

Informal - The Despotism equivalent with the Fundy titheing bonus. Immune to bribes.
Fibarchy - Up to four troops martial law and resource limits lifted. Immune ot bribes.
Brainism(requires Brain) - Democracy economic bonuses and up to two troops martial law. Immune to bribes.
Neural Network(requires Brain) - Fundy titehting bonus, nearly unlimited support, immune to bribes.

Units:

during Towelie's reign the military was virtually weak to non-existant. All units would ignore ZOC. Their strength was espionage, so spy type units would be mega powerful and always Veteran.

under Poseidon the towels started integration with marine creatures which lead to the Squowels. marine towel units are very powerful and have the same benefits as earlier units.

Improvements:

early improvements did not really exist, although 'magic root' dens and such would increase happiness. the mid to late pre-impact period saw the expansion of research and agriculture. under Poseidon, the marine towels took advantage of technology and built tons of underwater super-goodies. only useful underwater though.

City Names:

I do not even know where to start.

_________________________________________________________-

Event:

Firaxian Operation - for five turns uber-firaxian units could ruin everybodies day and then just disappear

____________________________________________________________________-

How should we set up dates and such for the PW scenario? I would suggest using the BU/AU timeline, even though you never would reach AU(because of the shift to interstellar conflict).

Government effects are hard-coded in Civ2, so you can't have all of that on the same time. I can only change the name of the governments.

Leader: Towelie then Poseidon then ?
That's impossible as well, as you can't change the name of the leader of a civ in-game without using the cheat menu.

But having the Towelites start on the surface is easy to implement. There could be an event that gave the Towelites a tech which allowed them to build units that can colonize the underground.

The ToT engine has a few hard-coded features, so there might be some things that have to be tweaked or even done without. I know a lot about the theory behind scenario creation, but I've never made a scenario myself, so this is kinda my practical exam.

If someone would like to make all the sprites we need, we could go for animated sprites (I see you have done some great Civ3 units, CH). But at first I think that we should go for original Civ2 sprites.

Does anybody know if we have PE's permission to use his map of Plutonia?

That's great! Now we need a unit list. You could start with drawing some Lyconian units, if you wish. I'm sure you would know best what units you want. I still need your faction profile, though.

As I said to sir_schwick, you can't change leader names in-game. But great work on the profile anyway! Just get that city list done, and everything will be fine.

I'm planning on creating a scenario file with the new factions when we get more faction profiles. Does it sound like a good idea?

I also want to advise you all (in case you don't know) that creating a whole new scenario is a lot of work. But if we work efficiently, we can have it ready for playtesting within the next month! But there's still a long way left. If CH can make a faction profile for the Lyconians, S290 and sir_schwick can edit theirs to fit within the Civ2 limits, and I add unique units to my profile, we have made great progress.

Do we have an agreement on which factions we should use? Should we even use all seven faction slots Civ2 provides?

Anyway, here's a list of what has to be done:
- Units
- Tech tree(s)
- Factions
- Maps
- Storyline (should we follow the PW storyline strictly, or should we give the user more control of the story?)
- Terrain
- Icons (for improvements, wonders, etc.)
- Sounds
- Readme (we want to tell the world who made this, right?)
- City graphics

Feel free to add anything I might have forgotten.

And I told you that creating a scenario is much work.

Edit: I have added a few unique units for the FraFed. But feel free to discuss them.
Edit2: Added "City graphics" on "To do" list.

I already said that I can do the scripting. And I have time enough for it.

Anyway, here's a save where you play as the FraFed. (Sorry, it was the only faction with a city list.) It is set on a small world, as it only is meant to give some inspiration. Once S290 and/or sir_schwick have added one (the Specialists only have one city in their list yet) and sorted out the problems I pointed out, I'll make a scenario with all three factions and eventual other factions we have a profile of by then.

Edit: Could a mod please move this to the Civ2 Scenario Creations forum?

Anyway, here's the file: (Don't forget to put the text files in the same folder as the *.sav.)

Great work, S290! One of your city names (Hohwattamiscodal) was too long, though, so I didn't include it. (Civ2 city names can't be longer than 15 characters. I should've said so earlier on, my bad.) Anyway, I made it so that the Specialist male leader is The Council and the female Leader is The Senate. Is that OK? If not, please come up with some other solution, and I'll do that instead. (Edit: Doesn't work when you play the scenario; you have to write it in manually.)

I have attached the scenario file. It's just a normal game, only with edited civs (the FraFed and the Specialists). Here are the settings:
- Small map
- Land mass: Normal
- Land form: Varied
- Climate: Normal
- Temperature: Temperate
- Age: 4 billion years
- Default difficulty level: King (Can be changed when you load the scenario)
- Number of civs: 3
- Barbarian level: Restless tribes
- Standard game rules

And here's the file: (Again, put all files in the same folder.)

Yeah, forgot about the 15char limit on city names. I'll take it off the list.

When I get home and if I ever figure out how my CD burner works, I'll get the patch and load that scenario up.

I could also give others some help on making their city lists if they need it.

That's great. I don't really like doing all the work around here. But can't you use a memory key instead if you can't figure out your CD burner?

Memory key?

I can draw things like people, but not vehicles...

Do you think you might be able to do blue-crested condors? I might be able to find an image of what I think they might look like, except w/ different colors. You know what the Kargarocs in Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker look like, right?
