Post War Mod(s)

Well, here in Norway we have summer holidays from the end of June to the middle/end of August. We want to get as much out of the summer as possible here in the cold north...

I posted this in an attempt to get people to hurry up a little.

here in minnesota, we have 3 whole months of summer. :D , starting in late june, and ending in the first week of september (so it's more like 2 and a half months or something)

Do you mean summer holidays?
I believe so, yeah.
But don't let this stray off-topic. We have a scenario to finish, and it isn't finished by talking about summer holidays.
whoopsies. :mischief: :D

I thought of something... At the moment the underground is colonisable in the same way as the top world if you have a teleporter, so it's like the planet has a hollow layer. Wouldn't that need to be changed for tunneling?

All we need to do is make impassible terrain that can only be moved through will 'Tunneler' units, which are given settler abilities. They can then convert the impassible 'rock' terrain into 'tunnel' terrain.

I was thinking along those lines as well (you should notice that the underground mountains are impassable to almost all units). The problem is to not make the tunnels look so tiled. I suggest we use mountains for most of the underground (I think that having a few natural cavities will be most realistic). We'll of course rename mountains to "bedrock" and make it impassable. We could just use the "dense fog" terrain from the extended game for bedrock.

I've decided to post a few screenies of the terrain (no, no units yet).

First a few of the underground:

And a few from the surface:

Edit: Hint, hint.

Personally I'd like to see a more pronounced difference between Grassland and Plains. They both look too much alike IMO.

I've done some more work on the units. Namedly, I've taken the units I didn't like from Erika's units.bmp and put in the units from my units.bmp instead. I also replaced the early fighters with the "old" ones and added the Nanobomb and Nanodeconstructor with stats.

Only one question for S290: ToT allows a bit to be set so that helicopter units don't take damage when they don't end their turn in a city or an airbase. Do you want that to be set for the Nanobomb?
And another question: Should the Nanodeconstructor also act like a helicopter? If yes, do you want it to not take damage either?

I'd also like to ask if anybody else has suggestions for the terrain. I heard some comments about unfitting underground specials, and here are the files for you to look at:

Please post any suggestions to new graphics. S290 said that grassland and plains look too much alike, so we need new stuff there as well. I like the current plain graphics better than the grassland graphic, so please think about a replacement for grassland first.

In case you want to upload a complete terrainX.file, please keep to the ToT format. I posted a screenshot of what it lookes like if you don't earlier.

(Yes, they are all separate pics. They just look like one big pic because I didn't put any line breaks between them.)

Yes to all three questions.

I experimented around w/ the Terrain graphic and added a slight reddish tint to the Plains and a blueish tint to the Grassland. Do you think this'll work well? If not, I can go back and rework it.

Don't forget that the three rows under the grassland tiles are also used. They are put under forests, mountains and hills (in that order). But that's easy to fix, so don't bother with it now. But it would be great if you kept that in mind in the future.

Here are two screenies from S290's terrain approach:

And here's a screen with the "original" plains graphics:

If you want to know what your graphics look like in game, save the file as terrainX.bmp (backup the old file first!), start the game, go to cheat mode, and select "Reveal map" -> "Entire map". This is also a good way to take screenies.
