This is a game at Emperor difficulty, so Poundmaker started with a free settler. Below, you can see the settler just sitting in the nook of a mountain range up there in the left corner. Meanwhile, all this pristine land that could have been his lies fallow. It's now the renaissance. Look at all that lovely land with luxuries I don't have yet. What a waste. I may be playing a peaceful game as Mali, but I am so tempted to come over and relieve him of it. If I don't, America will. That's my rationale.

So I guess the AI set it's heart on a particular spot, but it can't reach it? And it lacks any condition where it can just give up on that spot and select one of the other fine areas available to him?

Yep, the AI has a mental breakdown if one occupies a spot they want to settle.... often will declare war for it

As a side note, one of my favorite ways to mess with an AI without going to war, is to trap their settlers with my borders and units. It slows them down a great deal, and gives my the time to take the territory I want.

LOL @ those catapults.
Hey, those ten catapults are the epitome of modern military for Poundmaker's armed forces.

And to be fair, my formerly warmongering neighbor Hungary had pretty good success marching a horde of catapults up to one of my cities with a couple knights and black armies. If you're going to use siege engines, use more than a couple.

I don't even know if his capital is worth the grief, but I guess I can just ensconce it in Malinese (Malese? Maliniel?) cities.

Of course, I need to act before he discovers chemistry and figures a way through that mountain!
