PowerBar Training Utility

I disagree with using Word format. It is not universal as some features do not gracefully transfer between the various versions. Furthermore not everyone has Word (sure most do, but not everyone, and of those that do there are likely many different versions in use which could create problems). Also Word tends to collapse under its own weight with documents of this length that have lots of graphics. The help format will work for anyone using Windows, which is everyone who can use the program. Another potential format that would work would be HTML.

I go for HTMl or HELP format as I can EASILY link either one into PowerBar and make it have a help systems right there at the click of a button! Would make it easy to figure things out while playing.

Anyways, NEXT weekend I will work on PowerBar and try to fix a few things. Everyone have a great day!

I don't know if antone else has had this problem, but whenever I am playing with PowerBar and try to re-load the games info, PowerBar freezes up, and I have to shut it down and restart it.

You are doing a great job on this, BTW.

Here's a few questions (since NexusHyper's still on vacation; maybe someone else will be able to figure out the problem before he gets back):

1, Which of the CIV games are you playing - Vanilla civ III, PTW, or Conquests? And which patch level?
2. If you're playing Conquests, are you playing the 'standard' game or one of the 'conquests' included with the game?
3. Are you playing a 'scenario' or 'map' that you downloaded (as opposed to a 'standard' game) or with a scenario or map that you created?
4. Can you upload a copy of a saved game that's giving you this problem?
5. Are you absolutely sure you have the CIV game running before you press the LOAD button? (not meant to insult your intelligence - I just did this a few minutes ago, but the C3C version of PowerBar didn't die - it just told me that I couldn't LOAD with some other text suggesting I check the patch level of my game)
6. Can you tell us more about your computer: Operating system, memory, processor, etc?
7. When you say 'I have to shut it down amd restart it', do you mean Powerbar, the Civ game, or your whole computer?
8 Has this happened on more than 1 CIV game, or is it all the same CIV game?
Thanks in advance!

This will probably come off as a stupid question but I downloaded the lastest version and I click load and wait and nothing happens. It sits here and does nothing. I end up closing it, because I've waited to long.

Also is there a specific location in which you must save the file in order for it to work.

You don't say you started up a CIV game. You have to start up a CIV game before you click the LOAD button.

If you're new to PowerBar, you might want to look at the draft of a HELP file for it - http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads7/PowerBarHELP.zip - I'll be uploading a newer version of the help file within a couple of days.

You can save PowerBar anywhere - just so you remember where you put it so that you can start it up (or create a shortcut on your desktop for it). The same goes for the download of the HELP file.
Edit : NexusHyper has added the Help file into the package when you download PowerBar, so I've asked the forum managers to remove this old copy of the file.

I had already started a game and built my capitol city before I click on Load. I will look at the help file though.

how long does it usually take to load
It only takes me a few seconds to load. It 'slows down' to take as much as 20 seconds when I'm playing a game with 50 or more cities. But this, of course, depends on your computer. I upgraded to a new one about 6 months ago. Before that, I used to make sure I shut all unnecessary programs down and went into taskmanager to raise PowerBar's priority because it would be 'slow' and between Civ and Powerbar I was using all of my CPU resources. (Since then, I've discovered I'm bound by my graphics card on the new computer.)

Is this version of the PowerBar able to assign wonders to a certain city?
Can I use it to set the production of a rival civ?

You can not 'Assign' wonders but if you can build the wonder you can 'rush' it by completing that cities produuction with the complete city production button. YOu can also 'rush' techs by clicking the complete research button and get to the wonder in a matter of turns.

You can complete/surpress AI/rival civ production but not change what they are producing. Interesting idea though. Since I can read the memory to see what is being built I bet that I could make it so you can set City production/AI production. In fact I'll add that to my list and someday (not this month) I will work on it and see what I can do. I think it is possible to change city production via PowerBar!! GREAT IDEA!!! Thanks tammi!!!

There's another tool, C3MT (Civ 3 Multi Tool), with a saved game editor, which willallow you to assign techs to civilizations, wonders and other improvements to cities, create units for the human player anywhere on the map, and a few other things. I've been using it after starting a new game to set up games with a lot of cities so I could test some of the PowerBar features. But since it's a 'saved game editor', it's less convenient to use than PowerBar.

This is my 'final version' of the HELP file for PowerBar, subject to further review by NexusHyper. If anyone else has suggestions to improve it, please post here or PM me. Special thanks to the people who gave me feedback on the previous versions.

Edit : NexusHyper has added the Help file into the package when you download PowerBar, so I've asked the forum managers to remove this old copy of the file.

FILTERS:

I played around a bit with FILTERS in order to document this feature of PowerBar in the HELP file, but I'm not at all sure whether I 'got it right'.

If anyone else has experience with Filters, please post here or PM me. One thing I've noticed in testing with C3C is that the filters revert back to a default if I change from the UNIT screen to the CITY screen, or if I pull down a different TRIBE on the UNIT screen. Is this how it always worked with earlier versions?

I got the help files from Jeannie and will add it to PowerBar soon! I'm also going to work on some minor bugs (if I have time) and then post a new version!

THANKS JEANNIE!!

***UPDATE***

I just updated PowerBar to include the New Help System!! I also removed the word 'Beta' from the version name and renumbered all versions that I have released to make better sense.

Newest Version is PowerBar 4.1.0 and 4.1.0E You can read about it and download from the first post here.

Hey, thanks for considering an additional feature Nexushyper. Before, I was assigning wonders to different cities usting the Civ3MultiTool, but it doesn't work for me anymore since I have now upgraded to the latest version of Conquests.

I guess it's just this one game I'm playing where I got so obsessed with realism, and I started assigning the Pyramids to Giza, for example and the Great Wall to Beijing. :)

C3MT HAS been updated for C3C patch version 1.22, but I think you have to go to the Apolyton forum - Gramphos doesn't seem to have been updating the thread in this forum. It's version 1.10, if I remember correctly.

Here's the link to the thread in Apolyton: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&referrerid=9561&threadid=100445

Its good to see you checking-in though, Spiderzord. :)

Yes, still checking in once in a while - and let me just say, the amount of work accomplished is awesome! I can tell you you from experience that surfing the sea of memory for the right offsets is no easy task. Plus, understanding my poorly documented code deserves a medal (self-taught programmer  )!

Job well done Nexushyper! Keep up the good work! :goodjob:

Not only that, but DOCUMENTATION! Who let the magic 'jeannie' out of her bottle to accomplish that long awaited action item?
@jennie - nice to see you're still around and helping out! Great job!

Yes, I think Nexushyper was just what the PB project needed...I still haven't got around to buying C3C (sadly, I haven't even fired up PTW & PB for some stomping in months).

@Nexushyper - thanks again for stepping up to the plate and taking on the *HUGE* workload that powerbar requires! I'd say home run.

@ainwood - good to see you still keeping an eye on things!

Game on everyone (play a round for me, would 'ya)! :D

Nice to see you around, and I hope your 'real life' is doing just fine ;)

Since I'd been using PowerBar for a couple of years, I learned a lot from postings in this forum. When people new to PowerBar because they were new to Civ since C3C came out, it seemed a lot of people had some basic questions. So I started putting together documentation while trying to 'break' NexusHyper's new PowerBar (I love breaking programs). NexusHyper said he'd translate it into a proper HELP file, but I decided it was about time for me to learn how to do that. It was fun!

Thanks SpiderZord. I has been difficult!! There are still a few bugs but they are small. Soon I will have more time and might be able to get a few new features added like the City Info and add the ability to build any improvement/unit in any city! (Not sure on this one though, PowerBar was desgined as a tool to help those who MOD Civ III and used as a crutch, if you will, later. Thus this feature will give MODders a great ability to test new buildings/units very fast!)

jeannie is awesome! She took her own Word help files and translated them into HTML and then sent me a compy. I did a little fine tuning to them and recomplied the help system and there you ahve it! A Help system built into PowwerBar! Makes the download bigger and such but this should help with common questions and user interface questions!!

Thanks SpiderZord for the support!

Lately I've been getting the following error:

Run time error '339'
Component MSFLXGRD.OCX or one of its dependencies is not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

I had recently downloaded and installed some graphics programs on a 'trial' basis, and today I uninstalled them, so I'm sure something I uninstalled caused this.

How do I fix this?
