PowerBar (v2.0.0+) for Civ III v1.29f

Hi by all!
I from Russia and at me such problem, at me the
version PTW 2.00
And Civ III v.1.29f. In Civ III all works and in PWT
Gives out a mistake (Run-time error 6: overflow)
What does it mean?,
SpiderZord and whether there will be
a version for PWT 2.00

Only "issue" has been with certain flashes. They are "discolored" when poping up on the screen. Not a constant problem and it's not in every game.

Great tool. Keep up the good work.

overflow? isn't that something that happens when you go over the amount of memory allocated to a certain program? by executing a command repeatedly? i did that in vb class a few times.

russian dude, are you clicking the set treasury button repeatedly? (like more than once every second)

there's no ptw 2.00...yet.

as for the out of memory thing, try to get some more memory, or reboot the computer, or close some other programs.

i only got that subscript error thing once, and i just reloaded it on civ 1.29f like nothing happened.

what is the subscript 9 thing caused by, anyway?

Just a quick update on the next PowerBar version:

- I think I have the subscript out of range error fixed (bad index being passed to units array during the intruder warning check).
- I have a few other items to check and should be releasing the next version in a few days.

Thanks to everyone passing on help to other users :goodjob:

The overflow errors may be related to windows language version - see mrgenie's helpful post:

DevilCiv, let me give you a hint.

Next time you go for a pirated copy keep your eyes open for bad rips.
p.s.
I bet what you actually get for a version number is 2.xx

I have PTW 1.14.
I have the same overflow problem as well.
Mine is a Win 98 SE, with 512 RAM.
so memory should not really be the problem.
Run Time Error 6
Overflow

Weird.... can u help?

:soldier: Downloaded the Beta version309 yesterday and began using it. Wow, works great on the Civ III version but not on the PTW. When I get into the game and attempt to load the PB I get a "Run time error '6' Overflow" message and the PB then shuts down.
I'm sure it's timing and headspace on the part of the operator. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong.

P.S. cuddo's for such fine work on the PB overall.:)

Moderator Action: After a little detective work, I realized this was the thread this post was meant to be in, so I merged it.

Walkingwarrant: "Post Reply" and "New Thread" are two different functions. ;)

perhaps renaming "post reply" to "post message" or "post msg" might help :)

Sorry for the version delay - I've had back problems in addition to my time contraints. My winter volleyball league started my back problems - father time has a heartless way of reminding us older folks we aren't teenagers anymore. I'm hoping to get a version out before this weekend... Thanks for your patience and words of encouragement!

I haven't been around lately, and I am very glad to see that the PB is still being supported. Thanks for all the hard work. :egypt:

Is there a way to tell if other players in a match are using PowerBar ?

It just seems to me and perhaps I don't understand the utility, that you've opened a whole pandoras box for means of cheating.

It doesn't work in multi-player games.

Begging pardon, but it DOES work in MP-games. Anything that is monitored your-side only (as far as I can tell from nervous testing, anything not affecting the map) works without any trouble at all. Anything that affects the map will cause a resynch, but if you're hosting, all you do is say "oops, game bug" and reload.

Spider- W2 and I are admins of a ladder of roughly 1000 players over at Myleague, and the info came to me from a player in the league, so obviously they know about it. We're *very* concerned; even just using the 'undetectable' category of what you can do (I'm not going into full details on what causes resynchs and what doesn't, since I know some of our players read here and I'd rather not hand them the keys to the gun rack) can make a game impossible to win if you're on the receiving end of a "Powerwhooping." We know and fully understand that it was not your intention to have the program used in this manner, and I certainly do not fault you for it anymore than I fault Smith and Wesson for the bad uses of their cool invention.

But is there ANYTHING, I mean ANYTHING at all you can do/suggest to us other than "watch for repeated resynchs" to block use in Multiplayer? In the next beta version, maybe? Relying on the honor of internet players not to use this in MP games is dubious, to say the least. :(

Fried-Psitalon and WarningU2,

Summing up my response upon reading your posts :  :o

Once again, let me apologize to the noble people running Multiplayer competitions. Having your hard work sabotaged by people with no ethics using PowerBar to cheat must cause no end of frustration. Sid Meier himself would probably like to use my head for a punching bag - not to mention the PTW programmers themselves.

(Insert sound of SpiderZord sliding out his soapbox...)

I NEVER intended PowerBar for anything more than tool for scenario programmers/ mod makers and INDIVIDUALS to enhance their game play fun of a great game. But opening Pandora's Box and then looking back over my shoulder and saying 'oops' has little consolation for the parties involved. I am committed to keeping PowerBar a useful utility, AND preventing it's use in Multiplayer.
IF the multiplayer community and I can not come up with a solution, I will NOT support another Civ3 or PTW patch and render PowerBar useless.

-SpiderZord,
Please reconsider here.
I believe the majority of Powerbar users are individuals playing the games. I hate to see this revert to the oh-too-typical case of a couple of bad apples spoiling it for the rest of us.

I use Powerbar bacause a father of 2+, I just don't have much time to dedicate to playing Civ3 and I really don't enjoy opening up a saved game and trying to figure out what I was doing a week ago. I love playing Civ3, it just can't be a priority in life for me and Powerbar allows me to advance farther and enjoy more aspects of the game in my limited playing time.

You've greatly improved this tool from Crusader Joe's original, and I was really looking forward to the fix for the overflow errors as well as the future information screen that you described. I check almost daily looking for the fix. Please don't let it die now, for the sake of a couple of cheaters.

Not one to be non-constructive, and maybe to aid getting the overflow fix out: perhaps when any change is made to memory, a change is forced to a non-useful portion of the map (top left corner) that indicates something has changed.
Possibly altering it between visible and not visible in the ancient ages would be enough. That would cause resyncs every time a change is done, and perhaps that would be noticable enough to the non-cheater.

Please reconsider and put of 3.10!

Upset enough to rfinally get me to register as a user and post this response.

I'd like to add my support to scottfisher's comments. Like him, I've used Powerbar entirely for individual games. It allows me to modify the game to make it faster so that I can find the time to play. In fact, I normally use it to create custom scenarios. The fact that others use it to cheat at multiplayer is unfortunate, but certainly no reason to eliminate something that, for most, adds significantly to the fun of the game. I should add, SpiderZord, my thanks to you and Crusader Joe for the work you've done in creating and maintaining PowerBar. Frankly, had you made it shareware, I would have been more than happy to pay for the enjoyment I've gotten out of it. Perhaps you should do that. You deserve some return for your good work. Certainly, that would be preferable to ending your support for the utility.
