Also, some units were moving towards the city to the north, so i move in to investigate. I guess they died.

1090: MC>Drama, HR to Monty. go 2 sci spec instead as i start on machinery **crossing fingers that AI will not go in that direction and we can have 1000 beakers of tradable tech**

Doing some rough calculation, each tech purchase costs from btwn approx. 225-250% of the beaker cost. But we may have to be careful w/who we trade with, and this could be problematic.

not a problem about the game. I help my father do PR consulting (i just finished up an ad for a drug company ~ THAt was fun ).

if you can't get it tonight, i'll try to play some turns and turn up the $$ to 100% and see what i can do.

Regardig tech parity, if you think buying is the way to go, then by golley (sp?) buying is the way to go.

One problem, as I see it, is great merchants. I never read Kylerean's report on no science (but the no troops was amazing). I imagive, though, that he had one or two great merchants bring in a handsome bit of gold every so often.

We don't have the Butterfinger group.

Anyway, the beauty of diplo is that we don't need high tech. We need to structure our tech grab to be the one to build the UN, but we don't need all the military stuff. We ain't winning this one by the sword.

It is a shame that Roosey found his own religion, but he'll get free religion before the vote begins anyway.

Honestly, I don't know how we'll do it, so if you've got a mind to buy everything, please be my guest.

I wanna say that it's "golly" b/c that's how Little Richard spells it (and, as far as i'm concerned, his word is law)

yes, i thought of GM's too ~ I was planning on switching our 2 sci spec to GMs.

I was also thinking of a "buy and bribe" strategy: buy some useful techs and bribe our friends to fight. Who knows, though -- I agree w/you ~ i have no idea how we're going to do it either, so I'm not going to play too much tonight...directionless playing would be as bad as not playing at all

I've read Kylearan's report. I don't think that's our "winner". He had about 1200 gold per turn. Let's say we build every cash bonus we can. Then infect 40 cities each with our two religions. Here's the best scenario.

Even if I missed something obvious, unless it's a factor-of-six multiplier, we're screwed.

OCC just doesn't have the clout for that. We really just need to play nice-nice with enough people and (somehow) build the UN.

well, the only calculation that matters is if we can raise more money than beakers...that is, say, at 100% sci, we make 100 beakers (for arguements sake). Do we make more than 250 gold per turn at 0% sci??

This is what I started to reply with. Then I thought for a minute.

Uhm, Pholk, if 100% sci = 100 beakers, than commerce per turn = 100 'coins'
therefore, 0% sci = 100 gpt and that IS less efficient...

I guess it will be about strat research and trading ~ we'll also have to be careful w/our conquering dogs (if we ever get any) and make suer they don't become the #1 pop.

We really just need to play nice-nice with enough people and (somehow) build the UN.

Perhaps we should spend the day (or whatever) refining this oh-so-elegant strategy a bit.
