Well, as long as a hero(ine) can save the earth, I'm certainly not prejudiced on their looks ;).

When I saw the original pix being posted, I did think they were female, but the as others posted, I started to think from the context that they were male after all. If one has seen the movie, I'm sure there is no confusion though. I thought the stuff on the cheeks was makeup, or possible war paint or something, but one post mentioned a reflection or something.

You mentioned "child actor". Of curiosity, what is the age of the actor, and the age of the movie character? Anyway, if you're happy with it, that is all that matters! :)

That would be interesting. I did not realize the geneology of Orcs, but I did read Beowulf in college. I just don't recall orcs, but maybe that's because of the well-know orcs in Warcraft that tend to be fresher and more common in experience.

I agree with Floppa21... I'd want to read the book, since Tolkien is a well known and respected author (e.g., he did not write just to produce a movie and sell merchandising rights).

by Darkshade:

Wow, I did not know that!

1.) Indeed. :D

2.) Indeed. 'Tis the misinterpretation of what is a reflection in the film. And the feminine appearence is meant to imply that this particular hobbit is somewhat more Tookish than usual.

3.) He is 21, born of January 28th 1981 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which makes 'Lij 190 days older than me, if my drunken maths is correct (one does really know more than what is healthy on this subject) and has acted since 1989. The character, Frodo Baggins, is a hobbit in his early years (40s), as they live longer than do humans. The actor in question hath played many other roles sicne 1989, and done them well.

4.) Tolkien was the founder of orcs, and modern fantasy, at the same time as being an esteemed Oxford don. A good read, guaranteed, and a good film, unless thou art Juize. :D ;)

Hmm... If my assumption on Chieftesse's gender is right, and if she ever reads this topic, i have just the right avatar for her... All she needs to do is resize it and thats it... :rotfl:

Oh well... now i just have to keep my fingers crossed that TF won't ban me :D

[Edit: At least you should make it into a JPEG or GIF! :D ~TF]

[Edit: Whats wrong with pcx?]

I don't rember where I saw WarlordMatt posting about his Icon, but it really looks better if it is fixed up. If he finds this thread, here is something that looks better on the various skins:

Current Avatar:

New Avatar (very heavily; also includes custom transpagancy) :

Well, Simon, I've done some work on your Avatar now. It has more detail, various edge enhacements, contrast, color, and saturation adjustments, and a much better JPEG save algorithm to preserve the detail.

Holy Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Batman! In 1981 I was living in Anamosa, IA, a small town not more than 25 minutes from Cedar Rapids. That means that I could possibly have less than 6 degrees of separation from this actor :p

BTW, 1981 was when I made my television debut. I too was an actor from an early age, but fame frightened me and now I am all but a recluse;)

thanks globber.

Lefty's Borg Cube Avatar needed to be larger, enhances, and transparant, sooo....

DOn't mess with my work of art Starlifter i have the copyright!
If you mean your Avatar, I doubt it would need messing with, since it already looks great ;).

On second thought.... hmmm.... This will take some real heavy duty CPU power, and the lights may go dim in the Northwest for a few minutes, but....

For your avatar, after many enhancements and transformations, plus subtle color shifting, voila!

An alternative with masked gaussian transform and prescreened Laplacian overlay:

:D

its all black
ROTFL!!!

Oh, my goodness! It really is all black, sort of like, ummm, anarchy working best!

@ anarchywrksbest: so it was you who made Lefty's cube. The white background clashed with some of the site skins... transparancy is becoming a necessity if people don't have a rectangular/square shape, since there are at least 8 different backgrounds in the skins now. :)

EDIT: I just saw you used the 1st (all black!!) graphic! Would you believe that avatar is only 111 bytes long? Now, what if I made it transparant!!? :D

I think your cube looks good! The detail you had in it allowed it to be upsized very well. Since Avatars are only 65^2, I usually try and fill them, if file size permits. The big cube was 125 bytes over the 4K limit, until I finally did a light transparant background that cut 200 bytes off.

Do you want the smaller image made transparant? Or maybe you have a larger master, and can make it about 63 pixels wide (due to the 4K limit). If so, I'll make it transparant for you.

BTW, making the small one transparant is very easy, since file size iterations are not necessary.
