Preparing for a possible invasion.

could be. We are SE and NE of SABER? This wrapping world gets my confused.

Course, if they are going to the Bangles, that's away from us completely.

If this is a wrapped world and Saber is SE of us, then wouldn't it be logical that they are also NW of us? :hmm:

I agree that this world is very confusing.

Let's buy some donuts and take some small bites to mark the continents.

Just to visualize, of course... :p

No, it's a wrapped world, not a mirrored. Like Paul says, think of a donut. If you start at a point on the outside, and want to get to the point right on the inside you can trace a line up or down and get to the same spot. If you want to get to a point on the inside but slightly to the left you can go up and left, or down and left. Down and right will get you somewhere else entirely.

In other words, a point that lies to our SE will also lie to our NE. Of course it will also lie to our SW and NW but much farther away in those directions (you need to go further along the donut ;)).

Hmm... I found some kind of flexible piece of plastic and folded it in a donut and drawed a dot that represents our continent, then a dot that represented saber and I drew a line southeast and northeast. And you're right!

Although if there was a donut shop nearby I would've followed Paul's suggestion... :p

Ok – to hopefully help out with the confusions here, I took a zoomed out shot from CAII, and then made a rough composite of it with the map SABER sent us.

Here are the results:

If people think these are helpful, I can put them in the Vault?

Yes, these are vault worthy! It would be great if we could cut and paste so our land lies in the middle. Might make things easier to understand.

Another thing that makes it difficult to keep track of things are those blasted sea lanes. With so much black in the map I can't tell if there is a nice sea lane between BABE and GONG or not. Perhpas we should go back to Aigburth's map and update it? :hmm:

There should be one between them, the same one that connects us to free and us to saber. they should also be able to reach gong via a north west "island passage"

The BABEs are coming! And they are coming to US! :shifty:
Spoiler :

10 galleys are approaching. There might be a chance they deflect towards FREE but I won't place a bet on it.

So let's start some horses everywhere!

And our foreign ministry should ask for the target of those ships.

How exciting!

Finally some real action!

Let's just hope we can cope....:(

I'm just thinking about preparing a trap.

How about leaving a spot open (maybe covered with a worker to make it less obvious) between The New Yard and The Pier, eg the tile S of The New Yard? :hmm:

They could land 20 units on the first wave, maybe less if some ships are out of Range.
Our 6 ACs, 2 MDI and several horses could attack the first turn, probably eliminating all pikes and some MW.
We could rush two reg muskets there for 276 gold, one covering The New Yard, one covering the stack W of The Pier. Additional Pike(s) could be there, too.

At least Wotan should stop moaning then... :D
Or he will really start this time... :pat:

How many turns do our peacy treaty have left?

Wasn't the treaty until turn 130?
That would leave 5 turns?

Well, this was to be expected... Unfortunately we are not very well prepared.

Letting a large group land is not wise IMO - killing pikes can be costly, and one musket will not hold out against several MWs. Maybe a small group.
The psychological effect of blocking the landing zones would be great, if we can pull it off.

In any case, ideas on our defense are welcome.

I can't look at the turn 125 save just yet. Last pic is from turn 121. :(

But judging from the screenie above, they can't land anything for two turns. And they shouldn't declare war until turn 130. They could try to land and claim that doesn't break the peace treaty. I can't recall the exact terms of the treaty.

At least our forces were moved in a southeasterly direction last turn. Since I'm running blind right now, the only advice I can offer is try to get into position for a rolling blockade and switch some production over to horses. This, I think is something we've all figured out already though. :D If I can get at the save later today I'll try to come up with more specifics. The only other thing I can think of is to look into the posibility of disconnecting a city or two to make some quick warriors.

Should we ask for an extension? I'm not sure more time will lead to any better ideas about defense and it might make us look skittish. It may be in our best interests to play the psychology game. Not look scared and present them with a blockade. It might also be time to draft another Roundtable. And article about international reputation and another about musketmen might help. (It seems to have worked before.) Also, a good idea to get the word out to FREE and SABER.

We have 3 turns until all those galleys can attack us.

We have 2 until the galleys near our lookout can reach our land (namely, that worker)

We need to find out from BABE what their intentions are. They MIGHT be going for Free, but I doubt it. They can get to FREE without moving into the sea area near our island. We should ask them what their plans are for that fleet.

If A) they stack up near our picket galley or B) they move onto the sea tiles near our island, we are the target. If they move into our territory, we should assume we are at war.

Clearly, we move units down there and block where our workers are.

I think we hold off on switching to military for a turn, unless we are trying to scare them by getting near equal to them, and I'm not sure we can get there in 2 turns.

I'd switch over to military now to be safe. I think our best bet is to discourage them with a rolling blockade. Here's a pic of where they can land on turn 126:

Edit: Of course, a rolling blockade will not work if they split up to search out our entire coast. That main stack could reach quite for if they intent to land on turn 127. We have to consider moving our lookout ship to keep track of these ships,

I think something that should be noted is that the babe armada was launched before the invention of pikes. Making it unlikely that we will be facing pikes. When we were talking about saber fighting Babe we we're assuming they were fighting Spearman. I also like Paul 42: theory, if they have spearman. If they have pikes than I like trying to hold the cities.

They have cities on both of the one tile islands near saber, quite likely they rushed a barracks on one of those and therefore would have had the oportunity to upgrade any spears.
