On the main page JValdez posted a link to an online store selling Civ3 (when it's available). The list price is $49.99 (US)

So.. with an exchange rate of about 1.44 that equals $71.99 (CAN)

Add 15% sales tax (PST and GST) it works out to a grand total of about: $82.79 (CAN)

I can guarentee that I won't be paying over $80 for a video game. It looks like I'll have to wait for the price to come down a bit because I just can't make myself do it - no matter how badly I want to play it.

Hey RedWolf, Do your wages reflect the exchange rate? What I mean is let's say that a construction worker in the US makes $15 an hour, does the Canadian construction worker make $15 an hour plus the exchange rate, or just $15 Canadian?

It's hard to say because I'm not a construction worker. *grin*

I'm joking of course... I understand what you're asking. I'll try to give you some comparisons... I'm not good at this because I'm 21 and really haven't been in the REAL workforce that long - so it's hard for me to say.

I would say that overall we make more than Americans. So i guess I'm answering "yes" to the first option. The construction worker would make $15 an hour plus the exchange rate.

In Ontario the minimum wage is $6.85 an hour. To support a family of 4 with 2 cars and a morgage I would say that a person would have to make between $50,000-$60,000 to be solidly middle class. You wouldn't be wealthy but you'd do pretty good. A family bringing in like $75,000 - $80,000 is doing extremely well for instance.

Wages vary from province to province as well. They're higher in the Toronto area because of the higher cost of living for instance. (You're looking at $800 at LEAST a month for an apartment)

The thing to remember about Canada is that we pay very high taxes - probably some of the highest in the industrialized world.

In any case, for fifty bucks, I'm going to jump on it the day it is released.

$80 is more than a days pay for me. I can't justify it.

Has anyone pre-ordered it at Chips & Bits? I hope not!

They have that thing up a LONG time ago, since October 2000, I think. The funny thing is that at first they listed the price as $39.95, now they raised it to $49.95.

If you like to pre-order, you should do it closer to the release date. There is no reason to spend $50 right now.

Civ3 on sale at Amazon.com
Don't go to Chips and Bits and pay $49.99, when Amazon.com has it for $44.99.
