Prima's Official Civ3 Strategy Guide: I question it's writer's intelligence...

Most prima guides suck anyways, what a waste of money.

In the case of the CIV one, it was out for sale before the game was, so it's quite out dated.

- it is 100,000?

I reckon I could write a strategy guide...:) lead people up the garden path :) no i would never pay for one anyway.

- guide: release the game - develop a strategy guide based on the FINALIZED product - not the beta. Include MORE info than the manual. Check sources to see if the guide will work with the game.
Optional: Release guides for the patches!

Also lol@privateers being useful. It is even less useful than the war chariot!

- the war chariot is the Egyptian UU? Anyways Egypt beat many of my knights with their UU...well in v1.17...don't remember anything about powerful Egyptians in v1.21

(My 2 cents inserted into the quote)

The guide was written before the game was finished, and most of the stuff in it is wrong.

Not all guides are bad. The guide for the original civ game is excellent. The Civ2 guide was not so good, but it was written by someone inside the organization. Another excellent guide, probably the best I've seen, was for Imperialism II.

Although I consider the CivIII guide a ripoff, you have to admit there is no way it could be 100% accurate when the game has been changed so much.

The Guide was a mere advertising PROMOTION for the game.

Any author who can tell us that privateers with a then attack factor of '1' are great is full of it.

So Firaxis marketed a beta game with a beta guide. Man, those guys are slick.

All guides I am aware of a written to be released at the same time as the game. Some are better than others, but the best info is available via the internet. Having thousands of users developing and testing stategies results in better statgeies.

The only strat guides I detest are ones that info that should be in the manual. And then it is actually the manual that is at fault.

Unless it was changed in a patch, the war chariot has same stats as a horseman, with restrictions on where it can go. i believe it is the crappest UU around. And if it beats your knights, they either tweaked the chariot or you got ripped

The guide for X-COM UFO Defense was pretty good if I remember properly. However everyone is right about the CivIII guide, though I suspect when it was written all the specs were probably accurate.

Zouave, man you are pessimistic!

anyways, in my defense, I did not buy it, I was reading my friend's in driver's ed class .
