Adds 56 new colors and gives new jerseys to every leader, increasing readability and hopefully cutting down on the number of times secondary jerseys appear.

Civ 7 appears to use different 'sameness' calculations than 6 did, so there's the chance that - depending on what leaders you have in game - they may default to alternate jerseys. Once Firaxis adds a way to view the alt jerseys game, I'll work more on making sure each shade is distinct enough to avoid triggering the calculation (as right now its not very feasible to do).

Any reasoning behind Ashoka and Himiko being orange?

Part of the reason for Ashoka was that it reflects the saffron-orange color of Buddhist robes, but the bigger reason for both is that they matched the leader's outfits on the diplomacy screen better.

I love orange Ashoka and Himiko, but what's up with Machiavelli having the Confucius red-on-beige colour scheme as his default? Is it supposed to be Florence's flag but the red + white caused too many conflicts?

It's a reference to the Medici coat of arms and the later flags of the Duchy of Florence/Grand Duchy of Tuscany.

I've grown very accustomed to orange Ashoka and Himiko and now I'm putting together my own set of jerseys. Could I sample those 2 colours as primary jerseys in my own mod (with credit)? I'm not familiar with the culture of this website or the civ modding scene

Generally, the vibe is that if it's for your own personal mod: sample as you please; if it's for a mod you're going to upload/publish, then it's best practice to ask the original creator. Either way - feel free to use the colors and happy modding!
