Recently tried installing the update for BTS (3.17) onto my BTS on my Civ 4 Complete install.

For some reason it is not installing either through the default setup that comes with the .exe or from the update bit in the game menu itself.

How do install 3.17?

Thanks in advance.

Hi new here.

I had this problem to downloaded the install for BTS from here.
And got it patched. the other 2 civ games are up to date.

But the funny thing i noticed before i patched BTS 3.13 to 3.17 is at the build info the date said 2015.
Might this be why the build in updater does not work?

so it does not even partially install - weird...
does it dump the files somewhere else by any chance? do a search for cvcoregamedll.dll or Civ4BeyondSword.exe and see if there is another instance of it...

If it helps i have two pathways in C://.

One is 2k Games/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete/Beyond the Sword. This leads to a directory full of folder shortcuts that point to My Games in Documents etc, these are things like saves.

Another one in my C:// is Firaxis games, which leads to two versions of the bts .exe.

One is in Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Beyond The Sword (used in the screenshot) and the other is in Sid Meier's Civilization 4 Complete/Beyond The Sword (i get a python something error when trying ot run the second .exe).

Thats the same with my install. I also get a python error.

Yeah from Civ 4 Complete only.

Python error is the following - 'This application has failed to start because BOOST_PYTHON-VC71-MT-1_32.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem.'

I fear in this respect this error message is probably right:
uninstall, remove anything that is left over completely (mainly the install folders you listed above, the stuff in ...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\ , the stuff in ...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\ , the stuff in ...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\ [the latter two are hidden directories and may or may not exist after the uninstall routine is done - set windows to show hidden files]) and finally before reinstalling
either rename the ...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\ folder (could interfere with other installed programs!)
or click through the cryptic filenames in there (hey look like this:
...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}
...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}
...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}
- problem is I do not know the numbers for complete edition - but you should find a file called setup.ini in most of them which tells you which program the folder belongs to) and delete the one(s) for civilization - would be nice if you could post which name those folders have :mischief:
Finally finally :) restart the computer before actually installing...

This would get rid of any lingering stuff that might interfere with the installer.
after installation check that the game works, then retry the 3.17 patch (no other patches will work - since complete is already patched to 1.74, 2.13 and 3.13)...

I got the game to patch.... what I did was merge the two folders, allowing the files with the same name to be overwritten. I think what happened (at least in my case) was that the patched BTS for some reason made its own folder without all the other civilization files (which is why it couldnt find them and gave the python error). When I combined the two folders into 1, it worked.

Yes, it seems that Civ4Complete has a different folder hierarchy than the regular Civilization IV and its expansions when sold separately.

I seem to be having the same problem as these guys, however I cannot find the 2 seperate folders that need to be merged. Could someone please help me out :)
