Problem with 3.19 patch

I need a little help here. I downloaded the 3.19 patch, but when I installed it, for some reason it installed into the WINDOWS folder instead of the actual Firaxis Games/Civ IV folder (the installer didn't give me an option). It won't run from there because all the other files are in the correct folder, and the installer, after un-installing the failed patch, no longer does anything.
Currently running CIV IV Beyond the Sword vanilla on Windows XP. The only other htread I saw suggested said to try installing 3.17 first; but this didn't work for me (it said I already had 3.19, suggesting that the installer was looking in the wrong folder again.)

Unistall, remove all civ references then with this programm, reinstall, and look, if something changes.

Oh, and a question to your version: Do you have a DVD version, or a version from an online shop like Steam or Direct2Drive?
If online shop: You need a special patch, which should be offered at the website of the retailers.
