Problem with Religious Victory (Not a Bug)

I was playing a game as Russia with my own religion and I had defeated all other civs other than one, so naturally the conditions for a religious victory were to convert the two remaining civs to your religion. The other civ in the game was Brazil, who also had a religion and they converted all of the cities that were previously Arabia's but became mine after I captured them. So in effect, Brazil had converted all of his cities and all of Arabia's that were mine and the game thought this was a religious victory when I still had my own cities that were my religion.

If that northern clump of cities is Catholic and that southern clump of cities is Cancerous, then your civilization is, in fact, predominantly Catholic.
 
Yes, the game doesn't distinguish between cities you founded vs. cities you acquired. Once they were acquired, they became your cities. So, if after converting the former Arabian cities, a majority of your cities had his religion, you lose.
