Something happened to the Task Manager. I didn't make any changes in the PC setup, but now instead of having multiple tabs in the TM, there is only 1 tab and there is no buttons to close it. Any idea what may have caused this and what to do? This installation is getting to be a problem.

Did you install anything? I'm thinking maybe SecuROM or some copy protection or something messed with it and hid the other tab so you couldnt kill the process.

Cool feature. But weird.

Yeah, because Linux, and particularly Unix, are well known for their intuitive interfaces. That's why they dominate the market, whereas Windows was a niche OS for geeks and IT professionals for the longest time, and only recently caught up (after taking interface lessons from Linux). ;)

I didn't say "intuitive". Linux is neither more nor less "intuitive" than Windows. Microsoft, Apple, and the "X" group all learned about windowing from Xerox Palo Alto labs.

All I said was that MS didn't follow the "Rule of Least Surprise". (Not that they ever seem to follow any sound programming practices, anyway, IMO.) If all the windows in a given system behave in a certain way, don't make the window(s) of application 'ABC' behave in some weird, off-the-wall manner.

A suggestion on the original topic: Get Process Explorer
One of the best apps to come from a microsoft download page. Gives you a ton more info about your processes, has a suspend feature ( very handy on a older pc ) and a nice graph of cpu usage.

Indeed. A handy tool. I've got folks at work who swear by it.

That's because it's not an MS app...they bought it! Acquired it when they got SysInternals....

In case anyone's wondering, here's a partial list of other "Microsoft" products that were bought.
Internet Explorer(and promptly sued by the company they licensed it from for trying to cheat the little guy out of the agreed fees)
Word(basically stolen from Xerox)
Hotmail
Powerpoint
Visio
Microsoft Dynamics
A large number of search and advertising companies.
Several game developers like Bungie, Rare, and Lionhead.

Exactly. Thats why I didnt say its from MS outright, but rather from their download page.

Now I just wish they could make it work with securom.
