Problems establishing embassies

I'm having problems establishing embassies during the ancient time and up to modern. I click on the capital city of the other civs and nothing happens. A tech guy from the company said I should click on the box that contains those 4 letters D, E, P, and another letter, but I can't figure out how to establish the embassy. Anyone run across this?

Aren't you suppose to click on the star of your capital city, thus producing a box on ur computer screen asking u 'where do u want to create an embasy?'

You have to double-click.
