programs that mod civ5

I dunno, Blende ris compatible with everything :pat: Why don't you switch? it's free, Blue monkey and I would both be happy to give you a hand.

Because i used to have blender, and it is very different from Bryce. Although the fact that you can control how many vertices something has is very usefull i guess :)

YES it is!!!!

You can also have edges, and it can handle NURBS and Bézier curves...

While having editors makes it more easy to mod, there is a great risk in limiting it too much. Civ3 was a serious step backwards from the modability of Civ2. Many of the popular mods, Fall from heaven, Rise of Man, Rhys and Fall, would be impossible to do in Civ3.

I just hope it's simpler to mod like Civ 3 and not like civ 4. Civ 4 modding was difficult for me to figure out, and we already got alot of tools, so maybe they are talking about actual editors with the game or something.

I would absolutely refuse to upgrade if the modding capabilities were as dumbed down as Civ 3's. An editor for xml is fine (hell, I'd like that too), but I want access to the base code. Without that, you can not add entirely new mechanics, taking away much of the point of modding.

Exactly. ;)

Oh I am not sure I would go past 1000 (but we'll need to get engine specs and have actual testing). You are better off making a high poly then low poly version, then doing a normal map. I would HOPE civ 5 has support for normal maps in this day and age.

I hope they realise how important the modding scene is for civilization

be nice if it be easier for me to mod a few files via in-game or add in some optional downloads of a "civilization V mod kit for newbies" to learn how to mod, even understandable for simpler folks, or a simple program like the custom civilization program that came with alpha centauri, that will be awesome... be more awesome if the program is compatable to add in more modding tools like graphic editor by adding in some plug-ins and be more simpler to make graphics as well... in other words, I be able to make a fully nice looking custom civ, that look very professional... just by using a simple program that can easily be understand on how to use.

Zulu, you're back!!! That is good news. There will be plenty of newbies to torture. Or to blend amongst, if necessary to hide our own noobness.

It would be great if they would release more details about the moddability so we can prepare. Like, I remember when Civ IV was coming and they announced the Python scripting and people started learning Python. They should let everybody know what kind of software, and familiarity with it, will be needed, including that both for graphics and code. Then modders will get off the ground sooner after release. Don't know if that is desirable from Firaxis standpoint. Probably is.

:yup: A few months to prepare would be great.

Use Truespace 7.6 it's Free now that Microsoft bought out Caligari and much easier to use then Blender, 3D Studio MAX, Softimage, and Maya. Truespace supports addons and have the same controls Blender have but allot easier to use and the video tutorials are free as well.

you can download Truespace and it's tutorials at http://www.caligari.com/

Python is a confusing language I wished they used something that was more like C/C++. I just hope the XML will be Documented this time around.
