I can't believe I have to ask this, but how do you promote Governors? Usually I don't give it much thought until the game alerts me that I can do it. But last night, I was looking forward to promoting one of my Governors and suddenly realized I had no idea how it occurs.

So, like an idiot, I decided I'd look it up in the Civilopedia. I looked up "Governors" and it said you promote them with "Governor Titles." So I tried to look up "Governor Titles" and, surprise(!), there was nothing in the Civilopedia about them.

So how do you get Governor Titles? Do they come at certain Techs/Civics ala Spies? Do I unlock them by filling up an invisible bucket somewhere? Any help would be appreciated.

There are certain civics that provide governor titles when you research them. When you receive a new governor title, you may promote an existing governor, or assign a new governor. You can check on the status of your governors in the top left portion of your screen with the icon that looks like a writing hand. It will display all your governors, where they are assigned, and the promotions they have. When active, the "assign/promote" buttons under the pictured governors will be green.

Building the government district and the buildings on it also give one title each.

Uhm, it's right there in the civic tree, similar to the icon that shows you get envoys for researching civics. If I remember correctly, the middle techs in the last column of each era grant governor titles.

Okay, I'll have to look for that when I get home and play tonight. I quickly moused over the different star-shaped icons, but I gave up in frustration after not having any success.

O god, I just looked and I'm embarrassed how obvious it is. I was looking at those star symbols, but it was the hand-holding-a-pen symbol that is the same as the Governors icon on the top left. :shake:
