Proper Installation

Doh! You're correct. Re-uploaded, and edited my previous post.

Now enter "2 030" for FFH version. Then it will ask for installer type, enter nothing for the mod, "h" for patch, "Media" for media packs, etc.

I just used your installer for making my Mod-mod :) Works quite nicely. A couple comments though:

Unistall program really isn't needed. For main FfH they can just delete the folder. And for reverting back from a patch (or mod-mod) they would have to edit files, not completely remove them.

I would assume that Kael probably has his own installer set up to ask if he wants to include the PAK file and the DLL. Those 2 are the major size in the mod, and if he hasn't changed them then he would not want to include them in the patch (he might always include the DLL, but I know that the PAK is only included in major releases, not in each patch).

I setup the script that way because I don't want Kael to do any editing on the InnoSetup script, and made it include every file in the specified directory.

I think it's possible to skip the uninstaller... I'll consult the documents. Failing that, I can still remove it after a successful install.

Selecting files to include with a batch script would be possible, but the result would never be nice and user friendly. Maybe I'll make a tiny GUI to select files.

If Kael could give me feedback, I can change the script to suit his needs.

Edit:
It is indeed possible to skip uninstaller... update attached.

Yeah I planned to play with it and see what I can do later on for future Mod-Mod installs. While I was re-installing FfH to clear out all my changes I noticed there is quite a bit of space taken up by MP3 files as well, so if there was something with a nice GUI or scriptable file selection it is probably far better than any other choice on his end :)

Ok, I just spent the last couple hours waiting for the mod to download from gameflood, but now I can't find the mod folder anywhere on my comp. Am I missing something obvious?

edit: I was missing something obvious. I unistalled the download client and now it appears to be working. Gods I hate those things.

Hey has anybody else had BtS not let you load the mod? Everytime I install FfH into the BtS mod folder... nothing happens, I've been looking for a way to get this to work for 1 week and the game never even recognizes this mod :( .
I've been following the instructions in this thread the whole time. Please tell someone knows how to fix this, I'm a wee bit afraid that I'll never get to play FfH (AoI excluded).

(For the record I'm running this on Vista with all the latest patches for Civ installed)

Could you please post the following for me?
  1. Right click on the shortcut you use to launch BtS, select Properties, and post what it says in the TARGET field.
  2. Post the precise location you attempt to install the mod to when you run the install program.

I know Vista stores files in some strange locations for people, so I need to get thsoe 2 pieces to start helping out if the Mod isn't showing up in the list of mods at all.

 Sorry I have taken so long to reply, ironically enough I never was given the option to have a BtS shortcut placed on my desktop so... I can't really do the find target method (unless you mean the vanilla Civ 4 shortcut in which case it is below).

"C:\Users\marty\AppData\Roaming\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Civilization4.exe"

I do save the downloaded install file in my personal folder because it won't let me save into the C: drive unless I am an admin. Once I finish the download I install everything into

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods

Sorry if I'm not making this easy, my computer hates me and likes to show it,
thanks for even considering helping me though, its kind of suprising how few people do stuff like this.

Sounds like a fairly simple fix then. Your BtS is most likely at C:\Users\marty\AppData\Roaming\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword, and thus you need install the mod to C:\Users\marty\AppData\Roaming\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods.

You will also have to adjust the location in your shortcut to launch the mod to read:

"C:\Users\marty\AppData\Roaming\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\Fall from Heaven 2 030

Xienwolf, it is now loading and it chrashes when I start a game, but I've heard about that problem a lot here so I am sure I can find a solution.

I owe you one man, I can't believe it, thank you. You are the greatest :king:

Crashing when you start tends to be a symptom of installing just the patch, not the full mod. Check to make sure you have both an Assets and Resource folder within the Fall from Heaven 2 030 folder. If you are missing Resource that is a sure sign you did a patch only.

Thanks Xienwolf, this was my problem.
I erred in thinking the initial release had been labeled with an a for "alpha".

I am getting a GFC Error when I try to load the game, but I am certain I installed FfH!
Check your FfH Folder to ensure that you have within that a folder titled Assets and another titled Resource. If you do not have both then you only installed the patch for FfH, and not the main file.

what im getting is "failed to initiallize primary control thing " using win vista nvidia 8600 gts

trying to load the game version .30 crashes completly during load after like 75% is loaded version .25 loads and plays but part of the graphics dont show also age of ice the scenario that shipped with the game doesnt show any graphics at all i have civ4 patched to 1.74 i also have warlords (that was the 2nd expan i bought way back when it shipped) also patched and i have bts i just bought and its patched also to 3.13

note that ffh used to work fine for me be4 the bts expansion when fh was for vanilla civ

Known Issues:
1. "GFC error: failed to initialaize the primary control theme" error loading the mod. You will recieve this error if FfH isn't installed in the correct location (under Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods). If you don't have Civ4 installed to that location just make sure the FfH is installed in the same directory as Final Frontier, Age of Ice and the other mods that came with BtS.
2. The mod loads okay, but when you go to start a game it crashes. You experience this error if you aren't running BtS patch 3.13.

You should check point 1.

Kael, please please please use an installer that automatically detects the correct installation directory and put that as default...

when i d/l it with the gameflood d/l manager it auto installs it where who knows but i instaleld civ4 and bts in the default fiolder whereever the program installed it usually c:/programfiles/firaxis/sid meiers civ4/bts/mods the usuall default folder but gamefloods d/l manager who knows be4 you used gameflood i was in control where the mods were installed now with gameflood i have no idea

one more thing age of ice the graphics arent showing when i go into the city view matter of fact no graphics show at all the rest of the mods work fine including ryse and fall and final frontier

another intresting observation since i patched warlords to the latest version warlords hasnt worked properly when i put the cd rom in it cant see it and says to put the cd in so essentially i cant play warlords since the patch bts works fine tho and so does vanilla
