Dunno if this has already been said or not, its a pretty obvious strategy but not for some (me until now 
) Ok well usually when i play on Emperor building a spearman and an extra warrior for military police is a must to keep my cities out of disorder. Until i got PTW my warriors would usually just be disbanded when i changed to a Republic. Now i just upgrade them to Medieval Infantry at 60 gold a pop. Using a No Research, All Money strategy to buy techs money should be easy to come by. Now that all the warriors are upgraded, you have a large medieval army to take over a civ that has no pikemen and no real army to speak of. In a recent game I used this strategy to destroy Carthage, even when they had nearly 3 Numdian Mercs in every city. I didn't even have to switch out of a republic the war was over so fast.
