Quechuas

What are MPs?
MP=Military Police, the units you place in a city for happiness reasons, so the garrison and Hereditary Rule troops. As all units will provide only 1 :) each regardless of type, a very cheap unit like a warrior is very preferable ;).

iirc, the term 'Military Police' isn't actually used in Civ 4, but it was a feature in previous civ games, the term just stuck :p

I've used the Quechua at least 10 times! I've also had this game 3 years! This isn't the most elite level ever, but i'm pretty good at prince. I'm not new to this game.
But I am a quick learner, I.E. Ask frequent questions because I'm just now getting good at the game. I have had it 3 years though so I'm throuoghly familier with it.

If you've used Quechuas more than 10 times and your unable to use them advantageously, there's a reason why your playing level is low in contrast to higher levels.

In every aspect of the game, you must realize the potential it has. Obviously, every aspect will have disadvantages, otherwise that would be overpowered. However, you must weight the advantages with the disadvantages.

In this case for the Quechua, yes once the opponent gets metal your doomed. Other than that, there's nothing more that the Quechua specifically holds an disadvantage for you.

With that one disadvantage in mind, you have to realize that the Quechua is cheap, thus it is very affordable. Because it is so cheap, you can produce mass quantities of Quechuas in a matter of dozens of turns. On top of that, the Quechua is available right from the start, meaning you can build it right away. Along with that, the Quechua starts with Combat 1, so not only will it have +10% strength, with a Barracks it has direct access to the Cover. The Cover promotion allows +25% against Archers, which is a HUGE bonus, especially in higher levels where the AI gets Archers much earlier. Finally, the Quechua has +100% against Archers, that's a ridiculous bonus, and with the scenario often given on higher levels, that's advantageous enough alone to outweigh the disadvantages.

As you can see with this example, every aspect in the game will have a disadvantage but, try outweighing it with the advantages.

I wouldn't say the Quechua ceases to be useful once the opponent has metal... see post #9 in this thread. Sure it's not the wrecking ball it was at the very start of the game, but it doesn't take much to get some further use out of it into the medieval age.

Quecha are bad against axes.

In other news, immortals get destroyed by riflemen and praetorians get crushed by infantry. Why do they even bother putting Unique Units in the game?

Obviously so that fast workers can flank them all.

I don't rush often, and regular warriors can fog bust just fine, so they're useless for me.

Jsut because I have "used" them 10 times doesn't mean I wasent a chieftan noob WHEN I used them.;) Basically, "properly" using them isn't commen for me as Inca isn't my choice. I was only chewing out the Quechua because I had basically lost a game because I didn't use them properly.

Then why are you saying they suck? It should be you who sucks. ;)

Edit: 1400th post...... growing old.....

Quecha don't really shine until you start playing on Monarch +

I believe he said he's playing prince, so that would explain some of it. Although a basic warrior rush is very effective prince and below. Even moreso with Quecha since they have the combat 1 promo.

The quechua's CI promo remains after upgrading. Any unit that gets a free promo is a good unit.

I don't warrior rush either, but quechuas are great for anti-barb duty until barb axes/spears start showing up. If you haven't hooked up a source of metals or horses by then, then you could be in trouble no matter if you have warriors or quechuas. At least with a barracks, you can have CI/shock with the free CI promo for a chance of beating axes/spears in proper terrain or with multiple quechuas.

I've become a devotee of TMIT's spawnbusting strategy. If Random makes me the Inca then I spam barracked Quechua's if only to spawn bust the Barbs. If any of them get additional promos from hammering Barbs or beasties while I'm lighting up the map then all the better. Building up your forces with cheap but effective units early in the game is a nice way to remain DoW-free at a critical time.
