Queens of the stone age

Eklektikos, Melvins at Roskilde must have been one of the most boring concert I seen this year.

Dell19, Regular John is my favourite QOTSA song. One of the few good songs they made.

bobgote, Muse is the definition of meaningless music.

mine would be "go with the flow", and "no one knows"...

yeah? well i think that YOU are the definition of meaningless music. so there.

it's so easy to argue about music, but ultimately it's more in what you get from it than anything. of course if someone calls what I listen to **** I'm likely to do the same thing to his own musical tastes if I think they are indeed ****, but I don't generally think it's worth trying to figure out what the 'musical merit' of something is.

You most likely heard an ambient noise concert. Try picking up Stoner Witch, which is their most conventional, but still very unique and excellent. I'm only telling you this since it seems that would be what you'd most like since you enjoy QotSA, who you must admit aren't exactly groundbreaking. Take it as you will. The Melvins are quite 'out there' in certain respects.

Mescalhead, they managed to even make "Revolve" uninteresting.

bobgote, ouch!

"No one knows".

I think their music is kinda weird though... They are not on my top 100 list.

I just don't like the singer.

It's the way how he uses his voice...like he doesn't have enough power behing the voice to really get it off.

Same goes to that band that is made from the members Rage against Machine and that lead singer of...can't remember his or the band's name now.

Not bad...but somehow doesn't catch up with me.

Anyway...
Rock is dead.

Sorta. Rock is still around, but hip hop has really taken over. It's getting difficult to find a quality rock band that plays their own songs and does it well. Most music is saturated with all of this urban crap (I do enjoy some, but not all, of it) and nothing is original. Some of the new folk-pop male songwriters are great, but rock has taken a little bit of backseat. However, Pink's new song "Trouble" is saturated in rock. :goodjob:

I also like "No One Knows." Got stuck in my head one day, and I couldn't get it out. :crazyeye:

Rock lives on in form of bands such as Matchbox 20 (I don't like them that much, but there's no denying they're rock) and in the form of so-called "nu-metal" (though this is a different form of rock that concentrates a lot less on the guitar). so if you want something that sounds like good old Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cream, etc you'll probably have to listen to classic rock (one of the best genres out there. I can appreciate almost all of it) but it's not completely accurate to say that rock is dead. Just like those who claim "Punk is dead" are simply failing to open themselves to Harcore because that is where the punk culture is found these days, and those who claim "metal is dead" are probably listening to the **** Metallica is still putting out (those guys should have stopped long ago) people who say rock is dead are really limiting the definition of what rock is. not that rock hasn't really weakened. I can listen to a classic rock radio station without ever hearing anything I don't like, whereas listening to today's rock radio or to MTV means either enduring lots of **** or changing stations/channel often.

incidently it's really strange that I can't say "****" here, since it can be said on television

I forgot about matchbox twenty. Those guys are awesome! Their newest CD "More Than You Think You Are" is one of my all-time favorites. It's REAL music, not synthesized crap that makes you want to scream in disgust. Metallica has gone downhill over the years. It's sad really. :p

QOTSA are really great. I'd like to see them live. My hard rock albums for this summer are definitely QOTSA's and the new Foo Fighter's CD. Seems like Grohl learnt something, when he worked for QOTSA. Nevertheless, the best song on One By One is "Tired of You" which is more like a quiet mantra, compared to the others.

I didn't like the other Foo Fighters CDs, so when they play Overdrive the inventivness is over, but the other songs on that album are quite good.

So are you saying just the concert just sucked? They are pretty old. But since you are familiar with their songs there is not much else for me to say.

Chris Cornell from Soundgarden is the singer and the new band is audioslave :)
and yeah, they're ok, but nothing compared to rage.

funny, i don't see any punk bands there :) (or is that your point?)

i like the living end kind of punk much more than the pop-punk you hear these days (like blink182 and sum41. admittedly blink were pretty good to start with).

I hate the term pop and pop music. I'll refer to them as 'alternative' then.

Yeah, its hard for a band to go downhill when they were at the bottom from the very beginning.
