Question about fortifying units

1) If you have a whole bunch of units fortified in a city, say 20, some of them you cannot see in the City status window, so how do you activate them?

2) when you have ships and planes in a city, does fortifying them give you any defensive bonus?

Good questions here.

1. Others may have a better answer, but the only way i know to reach unseen fortified units in your cities is to move the visible units outside the city.

2. I believe it does, but i seek confirmation.

Part 2. I'm pretty sure that fortifying planes does not give a bonus (and, if I recall correctly, you have to use the city screen menu to fortify them, so it is not supposed to be done). I really don't know about ships.

Check the war academy, or run your own tests.

If you run your own tests, use all veteran units and simplified combat to make all battles uniform.
