Will they change with the time (like in civ3, lincoln in furs)? and how so since there are no "eras" per se.

In the screen shots ive seen, The leader heads seem to stay dressed in the era that they are from. Does this mean i could be negotiating with America iliving in huts and have FDR dressed up in his suit?

Not that it matters all that much(to me gameplay is 20x more important) but its a cosmetic thing that might take you outta of the experiance if you know what i mean?

I truly hope they change.

Negotiating with a Caesar in toga about a treaty of nuclear non proliferation would suck.

For me it's not just a simple detail. In civ3 I really found that the change over time added a flavor to the game.

I hope that -- in time -- they will let us customize our leaders' dress. ;) Forget the palace; I want to dress up Catherine. *lol*

better the Catherine from Civ IV than the Catherine from Civ III.

Im glad they are using a younger looking Catherine, looks like shes modeled after the movie with Catherine in it play by Zeta-Jones.

Worry not; the game is still divided into "eras" for cosmetic purposes:

Presumably, when you enter a new era, the architecture of your cities change, as well as your leaderhead, just as in Civ3.

When Firaxis has claimed to have gotten rid of "eras," they apparently meant simply that the artificial division of the tech tree was gone. That is to say, we are back to the old Civ2 system, where there were no artifical "walls" preventing you from developing Feudalism before you had developed all of the Ancient Age techs.
