Question about PBEM

We all know that pbem takes very long time. Is it possible to play some turns on-line if it happens that me and the player i'm playing with happen to be online at the same time? It should speed it up a while. I tried starting an online game 1vs1 and then continue it by play by email but there is no password option for the civs. (the other player can see what i'm doing.) If I play by email from the beginning and then continue online, do the passwords expire or remain if i then continue by email?

I've been wanting to ask that same question myself, but was too afraid... :)

The way my mate and I did it when we're both online was merely to play one turn each and keep tossing the saved file betw us until one of us had to go... Very inefficient.

BTW, welcome to CFC. :)

I'm curious about that myself.

Can the other player really see what I'm doing or move one of my units?

I started an online 1 on 1 but we were only playing for about an hour a week so we changed to PBEM. When the game is re-loaded as PBEM there is no option to create a password. So it is possible that the other player could play their turn, then load my turn and have a look at what i'm up to. It would be stupid for them to change anything as I would most likely I would notice. But it does give the opponent the chance to cheat. You have to trust them really.

We tried to load the PBEM to online again but once I launched the game, it loaded to my turn on both our screens, and it was still in PBEM mode. I'm not sure if during the re-load to online you have to set the second player to their civ. I think I remember that the launch screen listed our civ correctly.

This was using 1.14f UK version. If anybody has been able to switch between the two play modes (online and PBEM) and back again, please post it in this thread.
