Question of the Week: Next Feature?

Which Features Should be Next?

Two questions of the week. Heresy, I know. It just makes up for skipping last week.

Anyway, when I finish the new sacking options, and the inflation mechanic; I've got about 10 more major A New Dawn mod features that are requested; and I figured it would be best to decide to determine what order they should come in.

Here's how the poll works, vote for the features you want. The feature with the most votes will be done first, second done second, and I will continue on until I finish them all (or run out of time for Civ5).

This poll will be open for 14 days only. Vote now, or never! ;)

Your path is clear. Follow the lemmy101 bouncing ball and AND will be greater than ever.

Start with Food and Production distribution, follow with Immigration and continue with Advisors. The guy is brilliant.

Thanks for the votes guys. The first project is pretty clear, redesigned vassalage. After I kick out a 1.72 release later today, I'm going to buckle down and finish the Economy Mod & Diplomacy tweaks. As soon as that is done, I'm going to start rebuilding vassalage.

On unrelated news, Lemmy101 is working on a new religion system, a feasible one that looks cool. After Vassalage, I will probably merge Lemmy's mod.

New religion eh? Just the other day I was thinking to myself there should be a
"no religion" option. Glad to hear someone has taken up the challenge.
Can you give us any tidbits or idea's?

No, I think he means a new religious system, not religion. I'm hoping the spread of religion will be a little more realistic with this system, we will see...

Hi Afforess:

This may not be considered that much of a big feature. But now that Great Commanders are working for me, I've come to realize one thing - they move for crud. :( Which is annoying when the rest of my army is able to make three moves over almost any terrain, while my GC is able to make two moves only over plains and grassland.

So what I would like is to be able to embark the GCs onto most units. Would be good if the AI did that too. The units which I think would work best with this would be:

  • Elite infantry units (possibly only Warlord/Noble units and UUs)
  • All mounted - this is historically accurate, from Hannibal's elephants to Gustavus Adolphus' famous (also reckless and ultimately fatal) cavalry charges
  • Most tracked units - except early tanks as they didn't have the C&C capability
  • Wheeled units - definite exception would be the motorcycle, but I think that's a recon unit anyway
  • All water combat units - while we're at it nuclear and stealth submarines should be able to carry troops (and spies) as well as missiles. From what I've read, spec ops subs for SEAL operations are refitted boomers with one of the silos removed to provide the troops with space.
  • Dropship (possibly including the hybrid gunship) - which should be able to carry troops as well. And the cargo copter should be able to upgrade to this.

There's probably some that I missed. Anyway, I hope you'll think about it.

Just wait till you use Tactics by Vincentz that will be in the future AND update. With that modmod, you maybe will no longer have any complaints about GC being slow :). Maybe...

I think he already is playing with it.

But GCs are Great People, right? Unless the promos can apply to GGs, they won't affect them. And besides, my idea is about creating a unit that can attach to another unit. Heck, even sticking a spy into a fast cavalry unit (base of 2 move+morale+speed=4 move) would be pretty cool. Of course, the AI would have to be able to know what to do with it all, so sticking with just GGs/GCs would be fine.

I think he already is playing with it.

I'm not, but I always build the Confucian great temple or whatever it's called that grants morale. Plus AND 1.71 has a building available that grants -1 movement cost, plus I have enough xp to get to the speed promo on a horse infantry (I built it to hurt but not kill a barb warlord, then I took out the other unit that was in that city, then I captured the warlord).

The horse got promo'd to led by noble, I attached my new warlord (after upgrading the unit), and then upgraded the unit to a Cuirassier. So now I have this awesome unit running around with 4 moves, while my GC is [wheeze] trying to [huff] keep up ["wait for me"]. If I had used the Supplies promotion from Vincentz mod I would have had the problem only more so.

Ressouces/goods system for sure!
Else . . . some time spend on fixing MP games . . .

I would like to see high tech upgrades for the elite infantry units. The Modern Paratroopers, Special Forces, and Modern Marines need to have an upgrade path with an equivalent unit to the Special or Telsa infantry (With their special abilities of air drop, commando or amphibious). Probably with a combat strength in the 110-120 range.

What I find happening is that when I reach the later stages of the game, my modern and mech infantry units get upgraded and it leaves my elite troops behind.

Only Special Forces need that. Modern paratrooper (not national unit) upgraded to 110-120 AND a commando as starter promotion will be overkill. Regular way of attaining commando promo would be ok.

Tho at that time of game i usually mass enough generals in my main army production city to pump out thermobaric tanks with commando promotion already built in.

I voted for Resource/Goods,
but I also want to see improved
Vassalage
and
Elections & Senate

You gave us too many good choices!:crazyeye:

I agree that you would most certainly want to balance it. You could come up with strength number that would could compensate for high-tech marines with their amphibious and the high-tech paratroopers with air drop. It seems really strange to me that in the late game, I can upgrade all my regular infantry and my elite forces end up practically obsolete.

Only a few more days left to vote! Redesigned Vassalage is in a clear lead, but 2nd and 3rd place are still undecided. I appreciate everyone's opinions. The best mod consists of what YOU want, not what I want.

I can't believe that goods is so far behind. It's sort of boring to have so few things to trade. Sure doesn't represent a robust economy. But I'm sure people can make convincing arguments for each of their favorites...

I have to agree about goods(the reason I like to expand the Corporations. Ex:
-CivJewels takes in gold, silver, and jewels, but with the Corp UB, it gives Jewellry
-SidSushi takes in food[sea] rescources and gives sushi).

Actually I had meant to say a new system, was just typing to fast :crazyeye: When you enjoy the late game like I do, you really notice how useless religion becomes.

I'd dyeing to hear some tidbits about the new vassalage system. Should I just hold off installing 1.72 and wait for the next version?

I'm not that fast. It will be a few weeks before you hear about anything other than patches now. ;)
