How are we supposed to save games? Is there a certain way to save them or do we let autosave take care of that and just turn in the last game?

This will be my first attempt at the GOTM so I am sorry for the newbie questions I just want to get it right.

Any way you like. :)

Autosaves are fine, but you run the risk of them getting over-written if you decide to play another game for a while. Personally, I make a manual save at the end of each play-session, and load it at the start of the next.

Please make a manual save for the final one that you submit. I haven't tested the systems with autosaves, and I've no idea if they are the same format. Civ3 autosaves were un-compressed, for instance, and far too big to upload..

Ah! OK! Thanks. However, I still think a manual save right after you've agreed to play another turn may be the safest way to go, as then you are sure that's when it was created.

I have another problem. When i won spaceship i got message that movies are not installed correctly and suffered crash to desktop. The score was registered in HOF but now I have only save one turn before winning. What should I do now?

Thanks.

I would suggest turning off in-game movies:

7. Game Settings

There are reports of issues with permissions when installed in the Programs directory. If you have severe startup problems then you could try installing in another location (or another partion).

Try changing the game settings to reduce graphic and memory loads. There are options for autosaves, wonder movies, etc. Window mode seems to one person with movie stuttering.

Look in your installation directory for a file called "_Civ4Config" and open it in notepad. Here are some selected lines of interest.

Code:
; Specify whether to play in fullscreen mode 0/1/ask
FullScreen = 1

; Specify the number of turns between autoSaves. 0 means no autosave.
AutoSaveInterval = 1

; Set to 1 for no in-game movies
NoMovies = 1

Once you've done that, try replaying the final turn, saving then submitting. :)
