Ive just started to play again and ive tryed to play the GOTM but there are errors that occure. Its most likely the fact the my version is no longer compatible with the download, so anyone know what i should install to make it work?
I have civ3 with patch 1.29f only.

welcome back, mike, to cfc! It took quite a while for you to do your first post.

Look, you still can play gotm with 'vanilla' civ3. There are a lot of players who don't have any alternative, the mac players. therefore, 'vanilla' civ is by no means outdated.

But GotM - or 'Classic GotM', so it is called to distinguish from the c3c COTM competition - has gone a long way from the initial incentive. Since GotM 17 the games are modded to meet the PTW version. The add-ons are in sum quite big, so if you want to take it, there's a bunch of downloads waiting for you. On the other hand, with this stuff you can upgrade your Vanilla Civ3 to be like (almost) PTW. You get new Civs (Spain, Ottomans, Vikings, Koreans ...) toegether with new units and such.

If you want an overview, have a look at the GotM reference thread. The essence is, you need the add-ons for GotM 21 to GotM 25 to play GotMs since GotM 17.

As you say you have version 1.29f, not 1.29b2, I assume you are a PC user. Here's a list of the add-on files you have to install:

You need to download and install some game packs that add some different
units, resources and civilizations to the game.

You can get the install packs at the following links:

GOTM 21 Full setup:

Download these, and install them in the
above order. The key point is to make sure that when the
installer asks where you want to install to, that you make sure that it
installs to the directory where you installed Civ to in the first place.

These dowloads install a pair of resource graphics files that work with the older GOTMs. These are no longer required for current games, or for standard games and will mess up your map display or even crash the game, so you need to swap them. There are instructions on how to do this in the readme files that come with the installers.

You should also put the latest version of the pediaicons.txt file into your /Text folder to replace the installed one. A copy is available here.
