Questions about The BUG Mod

@Maffu - ok, so you probably make some good observations and your approach would be fine if we worked for you. However, this is something we do for fun and community. Say what you think is wrong ... but if your words contain sting then don't try and take the sing out at the end ... lead with the good stuff and offer suggestions for improvement ... not criticism.

Its all in the packaging (as you have been trying to tell us :D).

If it helps, I read Maffu's posts as being tongue-in-cheek. There was a part in the second one that was a little too biting ("It's ok darlin', I'll walk you through it." seemed more patronizing than playful), but I chalk it up to language barrier, age difference, style, whatever.

I'm going to continue assuming Maffu is trying only to help. :) Please correct if I'm wrong, Maffu.

Well, I didn't mean to condescend or offend anyone.

I only wanted to contribute something back.

Meh. Whatever.

Really tho, I'm sorry.

Thanks again.

@EmperorFool - The second post was in defense of having been dismissed and having had the dictionary quoted at me.

My original post was totally tongue in cheek and was meant to make someone laugh while pointing out something incredibly obscure from a close perspective, but frustrating from an outsiders perspective.

Anyways, this is all so off-topic. I'm sorry about all of this.

Hmmmm, back on topic: If I'm not really interested in HoF/GOTM should I bother using BUFFY? Or should I stick with BAT/BULL?

Yes, I guessed as much. I think I would have felt similarly.

I laughed, and you were correct that our forum has become way too disorganized.

Probably not now that BAT includes BULL. Plus BUFFY doesn't have any of the pretty unit/building graphics in BAT.

Ahhh, sweet! BAT it is!

For the record if it's between content and organization, pick content! :D

This is mostly the problem. I have only so much time to devote to features and organization. You can guess which one I tend to pick. The other is that we don't have absolute control over the forum. If I had my way, I'd split the forum into multiple subforums as we discussed on our mailing list and sticky a few key threads in each, but I don't have admin access to our forum.

Meh....

I noticed that in the Tech Adviser, there are icons on the left saying what the next GP can be used to bulb (this was added by BUG right?). Is there a comprehensive list anywhere within the game which lists all tech that can be bulbed by a GP? Ideally, I think this information should be listed in the Tech Adviser somewhere.

Also, information regarding Era of a technology should be in the sevpedia at least. Useful for quests.

Latest svn already lists all techs a GP can bulb when you hover of the GP icon on the tech advisor screen.

Ah thanks, hadn't upgraded since I didn't see many new features - also have made several changes to customassets - need to move those to my mod directory.

Under BUG 4.2 if you clicked on your own player image in the Diplomacy At A Glance screen it would horizontally sort the opponents rating of you, which made it very easy to see who were your fans and who despised you. This doesn't work in BUG 4.3. Is there any chance of getting that useful function returned?

Also, when I hover over one of the 2 technology icons next to a Great Person icon in the Technology screen, exactly what am I being told? It shows a bunch of icons but if you haven't memorized what each icon represents it's a bit useless. On the same screen, I appreciate the color coding drop shadow for the technologies, but would it be possible to have the option of delineating the eras a little differently, maybe with an abbreviation or word in the shadow, or maybe some vertical lines on the screen separating the eras?

And the work you folks do is much appreciated! I can't imagine playing the game any other way now!

If you haven't memorized all techs and their icons by now, should need to play more civ4 ;)

You're definitely right about that one! My new goal is to play enough that I can recognize the tech icons on sight!

Sounds like a bug as I didn't do anything on purpose to change that. I'll look into it, thanks.

They show you which techs--in order of preference--that Great Person will research. The new version in SVN is much clearer as the boxes are labeled. It still shows tech icons, and that's not gonna change because the list wouldn't fit on-screen otherwise. You'll get to know them quickly enough.

I also changed the lists in the new one. Hovering over the GP icon itself shows you all techs they can research. Hovering over the top tech icon shows you which ones they can research right now. Hovering over the bottom tech icon shows you which ones they will be able to research once you have acquired all of the techs in your research queue. This helps you to more easily see what you need to acquire or avoid to be able to research a key tech down the line.

Thanks. I hope that the previous effect was intentional and not just a lucky side effect, and that I wasn't the only one that made use of it!

I'm ok with getting to know the techs by icon. That requirement will just push me to play more and become a more knowledgeable player! Of course, I really don't know what SVN is, but I'm assuming it has something to do with unreleased changes.

When you say 'new' one, are you referring to the release version of 4.3 or in-process modifications?

No - the sort in the glance tab has been there since day dot.

I mean the new, unreleased code. Yes, SVN is our Subversion code repository.
