Questions about The BUG Mod

I update BUG and BULL (I've done this a number of times with no problems) and ran into a problem with the interface. Everything works fine, except when I want to talk to leaders I don't get any text (as the pic below shows). Any idea how to fix this.

How are you updating BUG? In BUG 4.3 I removed some files in EntryPoints--one of which is related to the diplomacy window. If you are updating by overwriting old files with the new ones, you won't get these file deletions.

The files are listed in BUG's changelog.txt file under the MODDING section. Make sure you don't have these files in BUG/CustomAssets anymore.

@sveusb - This sounds like a permission issue, but you said you are running it as administrator. The other option is to use the ZIP archive. It has a readme that says where to put the files contained therein.

@LM

No, I'm just using BUG and BULL. I tried playing the game with BUFFY and they weren't any problems and since iirc BUFFY uses BULL as well, my guess would be that there was a problem with the SVN from BUG. I noticed that one of the files being replaced was considerably different size. I'll probably try another SVN update, but just replace the files in XML/Text and see how that goes. Thanks for your input.
No problem. I'm sorry I couldn't help you more. :(

Aha! Maybe it wasn't my fault this time![/QUOTE]

I was updating using SVN checkout. I just checkout the updated files to a folder on my desktop and use them to overwrite the old files. I'll look at the text file when I get a chance. Thanks in advance.

Edit: that did the trick.

I rarely remove files (for this very reason) from BUG, but when I do I will list them in the changelog.txt file. Or you can just skim the SVN log for "D" entries.

I have few questions:

I installed BUG 4.3 the other day, to be started whenever I start the game, but not as a Mod (I hope this makes sense). Now as far as I know BUG only changes files in custom assets (right?), and I'm about to start some Pitboss games, so I would like to know if there is going to be problems or not in running the game (I won't be the host) or should I uninstall it?

Now, I would also like to install unofficial patch for 3.19, which is not part of BUG, and I wanted to know if there is any changes that I have to make in order for these extensions to run together?

Thirdly, I'm thinking installing BAT as a MOD and then adding Better AI for 3.19, so is the path for merging these same like with BUG?

Please guys let me know if you don't understand some of my questions, I'm not native speaker:(

Edit: I just saw new BAT 2.2 is out and includes unofficial patch, I will download that and install it as MOD, but still how can I merge Better AI in it? Thanks

After I played my first game using BUG 4.2 and Better UI .84, I noticed the Hall of Fame was cleared, showing only my single game.

I had the idea of going back to an earlier game, starting it at the beginning again only this time through using BUG and .84 I'd be beginning with the same landforms at the dawn of time.

I guess that isn't possible, because you load mods and then create a game so mod and non-mod games are two different species that won't mate. Right?

I can answer this one, not sure on the others. No, you don't need to uninstall it. Pitboss (and pbem and other multi-player games) ignore these files in customassets. They don't ignore BlueMarble which is nice.

Note that mods installed under the mod folder might load the files (and cause errors). Check the mod's ini file and set to TRUE the 'ignore customassets' option.

If you do want to 'uninstall' it from customassets - you can just rename the folder to something like 'customassets-BUG-v4.3'

Fuyu maintains a BULL + Better AI merge that you can use with BAT. When I get home I'll look up the link and include it in my sig.

I haven't tried this before myself, but I think others do it often. Load the old 4000BC save outside BUG and go into WorldBuilder. Save the game as a scenario. Now quit and start with BUG, do Custom Scenario from the menu and load that scenario file. Please let us know if that works.

Yes! So to re-iterate so I can remember it
- load the old non-BUG game
- start Worldbuilder and save
- get out of WB and then the game
- load BUG mod
- load the game saved above as a scenario

I was afraid running Better AI (I have it load with CIV4) might also prevent the process from working, but it doesn't.

E-F, you da man!

What item is it that displays the buildings not in your city, specifically when you hover over the culture bar? I find this counterintuitive and would like to turn it off by default in the config XML of LoR so it doesn't confuse other users, also it just looks cluttered. I can see how some would find it a useful function, but it's one of those things I'd like to have off by default, and let the user turn it on if they would like. I can't figure out where the option is to turn it off though.

These are Building Additional Effects on the City Screen options tab. They show you the amount of :culture: each building will yield if you build it. Each bar has a different setting.

By opening the edit function in BUG I've been able to figure out what almost all of the column ID icons mean, but in the modified religion advisor screen I'm stumped by the icons that appear to the right of the religions. A set of praying hands, a happy face, etc.

Late in a game after religions have spread, I noticed there isn't a single mark under any of these columns. These are not for the bonus culture and happiness that religious buildings bring because those bonuses appear in the last column on the right of the screen.

These additional columns show you which cities have an item that belongs to the religion selected along the top of the screen.

  • :religion: - Missionaries (number in queue IIRC)
  • :) - Temples
  • :science: - Monasteries
  • :culture: - Cathedrals
  • :gold: - Shrines

EF:

I'm getting VERY CLOSE to understanding all the icons in BUG.

On the scoreboard, in the first position where the war and peace treaty icons appear, today I saw an exclamation point. ??

In a city production queue, what does it mean when the turns-to-completion number is in blue?

The red "!" means that this player refuses to talk to you.
The cyan color for items in the production queue means you already invested :hammers: into them.

Where can I get a list of changes in BUG among the various versions.

Starting with 3.6 you can see the changes in the Info/changelog.txt file that gets installed with BUG. You can also see it in the download section of SF.net as the Release Notes icon next to each version.
