Questions about The BUG Mod

Can't rave enough about BUG, but there is one thing that would be nice that it doesn't do at the moment. This may not be a BUG issue since the unmodified game does the same thing...

When I call up domestic advisor, I can select a field and have everything list in descending or ascending order, but if I leave the screen and return later, I have to set this up again. It would be nice to have the ordering for a given screen remain in effect.
 
Sadly, there is no way to determine the current sort order. When you click on the headings to sort the table, the GUI library that BTS uses doesn't send that click to the Python code--it sorts the table itself.

I'd still like to allow the player to pick a default sort for each page on that screen, but it wouldn't be ideal. It isn't done yet because I can't just tell the table to sort itself on a column. Instead I'd have to build the table in a separate data area, sort it, and then put that data into the table.
 
I know by reading around that BUG can be used with Win 7. I have it loaded and am trying to play RofM mod. When my game starts I receive several error messages that various BUG ini files failed to load in the x 86 files. BTW the game continues on but not as designed.

I thought I would start with the title question above, "Windows 7 64 bit O/S" before getting into any other details. I am old and slow:( and am looking for a quick fix.

Well I updated my BAT mod to 2.2a and now I get no error messages. Hope it runs right.
 
I finally got BULL to work (weird crashing thingy, never any problems with bug) but it seems to have turned off a feature I rather liked having. And now I can't for the life of me track down the setting that will fix it. I've been searching all over these forums and the BUG blog (you never know what helpful you may find in the comments) and still nothing. Any thread links I can go to for this one? The turns until my city grows and until my build item is completed are no longer displaying on the city bars from the world map. I assumed it was connected to the Wide City Bars mod and tried various settings there but got nothing. What am I missing?
 
BAT 2.2 did not ship with the necessary UserSettings folder. 2.2a includes this folder. This should fix the issue for you.

BTW, were you using BUG before or BAT? You said BUG, but BUG should definitely have installed the UserSettings folder.

I was using Bug. I'll probably try BAT eventually but I haven't even downloaded it at this point. I see my Usersettings folder but I have no idea what setting I need to tweak in the BUG city bar.ini file. Nothing really seemed to jump out at me as the obvious choice (all are currently set to true).

Sorry, I didn't see this post. I was actually speaking to buck beach who started with a problem in BUG and fixed it by "upgrading to BAT 2.2a".

In your case this isn't a BUG feature at all--it's in BTS. Go to the BTS Options screen (CTRL + O) and check "Detailed City Info".

I build BAT on Windows 7 x64. It runs for me, so it had better work for you. ;)
 
Lol. I almost asked if that response was directed at me because I couldn't find that User Settings folder at first. Thanks bunches; option must have gotten deselected when I reran the patch.

Tried to use it with Rise of Mankind (great mod) or World of Civilization because I love the extended game and the gigantic maps (not to mention the other things)

Now I guess I am left with a vanilla type of game to get all the benefits of this (BUG) mod or uninstall. Not good tweaking with note pad even if that is an option:crazyeye:.

So how do I uninstall? :cry:

Well I know what comes first the chicken or the egg but now really confused with BUG or BAT not to mention BULL (I seem to recall what a bull is, it sometimes has horns, right). Guess that's what I get for loading up everything I see.

So I think this is what I have done or have tried to do. Loaded up ROM mod, then BAT 2.1 and then BUG. Went back and updated to 2.2 and then further to 2.2a. ROM runs great with many of the BUG features but can't get to Metal Casting (even though it is in the science tree).

I maybe left with uninstall BUG (but don't know how) or forgo the neat things in the ROM mod:cry: I love the super long and large map games.

BAT is set up to load as a separate mod ignoring whatever is in CustomAssets so it loads by itself and won't get tripped up by BUG anymore. BAT includes both BUG and BULL. This is all on the FAQ with more information.

I think we could add the extra sizes and speeds to BAT but not BUG (breaks saved game compatibility), but it's up to Lemon Merchant. :)
 
RoM is it's own seperate mod, you should look in their forums for advice on it. Anything you do with BUG or BAT isn't going to have any effect on it, and vice versa. If there is a specific issue RoM is having that's caused by BUG, let afforess or zappara handle it; even it's it not something that is caused by RoM directly, then it's most likely it's caused by something me, glider or jdog did in RevDCM anyway, and zappara or afforess would be the ones to know if this were the case.

Basically RoM is a mod that uses a RevDCM core.
RevDCM is a moding core built around a BUG core (with some added SDK stuff to handle revolutoins, though with recent changes it more like a slightly modified BUG mod with a bunch of BUG modules to handle revolutions).
BUG is a UI interface with excellent modular loading support and architecture.

So basically jumping from the RoM forums to the BUG forums bypasses alot of steps, and will not get you any closer to a result or help you find the problem. 90% chance the issue is caused by RoM itself or something intrinsic to the user, 9% it's a problem with RevDCM and less then 1% chance it's something that can be fixed by BUG; or that the BUG team will know anything about it.

As everyone has said, wrong forums. RoM already has the latest and greatest official version of BUG & BULL, you shouldn't need to merge anything.

Now, as to your problem, what do you mean you can't research Metal Casting? That can be interpreted at least 50 different ways. Does the game crash? The Tech tree unresponsive? What?
 
have you discovered FIRE? You need it so that you can heat the metal to cast it.
 
I was running BUG on my old computer, but now that I've upgraded, I can't seem to get it to work the way it was before. Right now, it's running as a mod, so if I play in a succession game, it makes me unload it first and play the save without it.

I'm on Win 7, BTS 3.19. I tried using the auto-installer here. It's entirely possible I've done something stupid, so don't feel bad if you need to tell me I'm an idiot. :crazyeye:

To use BUG with succession games and other games started without a mod loaded you must install the Single-Player version of BUG using the EXE installer. You can uninstall the mod version if you want, but it's not mandatory. Note however that the Start Menu shortcuts will overwrite the mod ones if you leave that box checked.
 
I ran the uninstaller, then reinstalled with the single player box checked. It didn't give me any errors or anything, but when I started the game, it runs without the mod, whether a new game or a saved one. Then when I went to the load mod menu and it still had the option to load it, even though I thought I uninstalled that version. :confused:

Loaded the mod then tried to load the save, and got this message again.

I get the feeling I'm missing something very very elementary...

Actually, judging by that link you gave, it looks like you installed BAT, and not BUG itself. With only BAT installed, if you don't load BAT to play a game, you won't have BUG.

BAT includes BUG, but if you want BUG to function with other mods, or standard BTS games, you need to install BUG itself as a stand alone. It won't affect BAT in any way, but it will allow you to use BUG without loading BAT.

Make sense? :)
