I bought my first PC (a VIglen 286) in 1991 as an educational toy for my young family. I was using computers increasingly at work but had found computer games rather boring up to that point. The PC arrived with a free software magazine which contained a rave review of an upcoming strategy game called Civilization, which sounded more like my cup of tea. The review finished by stating something like "if you only ever buy one computer game, buy this one!". So I did. 30 years and six versions later, I still play "one more turn" more times than I should. I attach a photo of my original Civ1 wallet alongside Civ6 on Steam. I still have the Civ1 handbook but the disk has disappeared in the mists of time.

Love and thanks to Sid and the Civ teams (affection not shared by my loving wife). Also a BIG thankyou to the CivFanatics teams for introducing me to the wonderful worldwide Civ community, especially through the GoTM threads.
OOPS, just realised this thread was for September only, sorry!!!
