Hi there

First time posting here, and I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with.

1: I'm living in France at the moment, and since I couldnt wait for an online order to be shipped to me, I ran down to a shop and bought the game as soon as I heard it was out. I asked them if it was english version and they said yes, The game itself is an english installation, so thats fine. But the manual is french only. No multilanguage versions, and my french isnt good enough to go through all that. Is there an online version of the manual somewhere? (and the sheet with all the units and tables is also in french).

2: I've played the other Civ games, but I'm not sure I understand 100% how to manipulate the specialists etc. here. Is it necessary to check my cities all the time and put them on "No Growth" just before the get more unhappy than happy citizens? Are there specific strategies or something to be aware of when choosing how many/when/which kind of specialists to use?

3: When do the AI's attack? It seems that some of them attack when they are at -6 attitude (or whatever its called) while some others do it before or after that. Is there a random aspect of it as well?

4: How big a disadvantage is it to get no wonders at all? I'm currently playing a game where I deliberately expanded 100% in the beginning, but that meant I wasnt able to keep up with the wonderrace. Im starting to catch up now (1750's) and I'm progressing alot faster than the others, but will it be too late, because of the lack wonders? Is it necessary to use everything possible to get Great Persons through other means to compensate for that?

5: Should you start thinking about which winning condition you are aiming for at the start of the game already, or is it best to keep several options open?

6: It seems that a lot of people think religion in the beginning is very important. It is only because of the money you can get from a shrine or has also something to do with the relations to the AI's that share the religion?
If you dont get a religion, are there some specific things to keep in mind?

7: I tried the Epic time feature, but it didnt look like it was "slower". I thought that each turn would be only half the number of years and that all advances would be twice as expensive or something like that to compensate. I really like to play in the ancient ages, and if it could last longer than it does, it would be really cool.

That's it for now, I think. Some of the questions are very general and some are very specific. I hope you can help with all of them.

I'll answer this one:

Wonders, to me, are more of a "boost" to your civ than anything else. They aren't nearly as powerful as they were in civ3 and are balanced by being cheaper and more plentiful. Think of them as really sweet improvements to your cities and empire. Go for the ones that will help you in whatever strategy you are employing. find or trade for stone and marble--these resources will double many wonder build times.

Founding a religion is nice. You get gold and culture from the shrines. However, I think there are usually many more important techs to worry about. You can still build temples/monastaries/cathedrals because other Civ's religions will spread to you.

Another thing to remember is that it seems to take everyone (myself included) a couple of games to figure out that you do not have to, and often should not, make a religion you founded your state religion. Use religion as a diplomatic tool with the AI.
