1: How much effect does population have on pollution - is there a fixed rule? From a bit of looking around it my current game it seems 1 'radioactive symboly thingy' for each pop point over 12, is that right?

2: How much does mass transit influence this by?

3: Has anybody worked out a list of all polluting buildings and how much pollution they generate, or do they all pollute the same? (maybe it says in the editer... dunno)

As for the chicken and the chicken egg, the egg came first. It's all about evolution (and I heard a rumour the other week that they no longer teach that at schools in the US :crazyeye: ), the first animal that could be called a chicken must've come from an egg, but, as it is the first thing to have the particular set of mutations to become a chicken, it's parents could not have been chickens - maybe chockins or something.

2. Mass Transit completely eliminates polloution caused by high population (over 12)

3. The buildings that cause polloution are the ones that have anything to do with factories/increasing sheild production. YOu could make a list in 1 minsute if you thought about it, i dont have the time thoguh ;)

Im not sure about 1.

Hope that helps :)

Gainny bo

Are you sure about that for mass transit.

I thought the rule was:

one pollution per pop>12 without mass transit

one pollution (only) for any pop >12

so size 15 w/o mass transit is 15-12=3 pollution, size 15 with mass transit is just one pollution

re 3. they don't all pollute the same. And some do NOT affect shields e.g. research labs cause pollution, so do commercial docks in ptw.

I'm not sure if there's a list in the FAQ or not

I apologise regarding Q 3.

I don't understand what you are saying about the mass transit/polloution thingie. You are probably right whatever your point is :mischief:

My understanding is, that once a City grows into a metropolis, it can be liable at any time to be struck by polloution. The mass transit eliminates the threat from overpopulation. Correct me if i'm wrong... (in simple terms ;))

EDIT: Thanks for clearing that up :)

That should be right, IIRC. :)

my emphasis added

In simple terms:
Mass transit reduces the pollution, but does not eliminate it.

Without Mass Transit
  • Pop 13, Pollution 1
  • Pop 14 Pollution 2
  • Pop 15 Pollution 3
  • .......
  • Population n Pollution n-12
  • ....
  • Population 26 Pollution 14
  • ....
  • etc

With Mass Transit
  • Pop 13, Pollution 1
  • Pop 14 Pollution 1
  • Pop 15 Pollution 1
  • .......
  • Population n (>12) Pollution 1
  • ....
  • Population 26 Pollution 1
  • ....
  • etc

So Mass transit does not eliminate the pollution, merely reduces it (in some cases massively).

Recycling works in a similar fashion - no matter how much "improvement pollution" you have, a recycling centre reduces it to one point only. So the largest city, with every single pollution causing improvement, will have just 2 pollution if it has both a recycling centre and mass transit.

It is only possible to have NO pollution if you have a population of 12 or less AND no improvements which cause pollution.

The Great Apple:
I'm very appreciated you are disscussing the problem with chicken and its eggs :) but my questions remained without answers.

All:
I do not know if tacticals nukes and nuclear subs worth spending resources in my game if I want to be peaceful, but I need defensive power.

Here are the questions again:
1. Does the my reputation in the world suffer for 16 points anyway when using tactical nuke ?

2. Will the tactical nuke destroy Carrier with air units onboard guarded by BattleShip or two entirely in one hit or it will leave some units with some hitpoints remained ?

3. What will happen if the nuke strikes enemy u-boat that is not seen to me and has own nuke also ?

I have updated the FAQ to reflect Madscot's information. Of course, I stole the credit for it, so you may all :worship: me. . . :D

Thanks Madscot! :goodjob:

TheDoozer,

Not that many people use Tactical Nukes or even that many ships.

1. I am pretty certain using tactical nukes is just as bad to your reputation as using ICBM's is.

2. You will have to find someone who uses ships and tactical nukes to answer that. ;)

3. Refer to 2.

Does this mean that I will have only 1 pollution if I build recycling center or Mass transit; but not both.

@ TheDoozer:
I can not fully answer your questions. This why I have not replied before now. All I say is this:

Re: Question 2)
I have only used one nuke. I nuked one of my own cities (the bikini Atoll thing) with units inside. It wasn't a very big city. Captured from the enemy; in fact. The nuke took out the city, the units inside, and a unit one tile outside the city. It caused pollution over two tiles, also.

So, my guess is it will destroy Carrier, Planes, Battleships, and anything else within one tiles. This is just a guess. I would test it; but I am not at a level where I can build nukes right now.
You could test it yourself by saving the game and making a backup copy. Then build required units and nuke'm.

Re: Question 3)
If you can not see the U-boat; how can you target it? Same answer; make a backup copy of the game and test it on your own U-boat.

Re: Question 1)
I think you get a rep hit ahytime you use nukes. Again, this is just a guess.

If you try the tests; I would be interested to hear the results.

Pollutions caused by population and production are counted separately, and they add up to the total amount of pollution that a city creates.

If you have Mass Transit, the city's polution generated by the population will be 1, if there is any. If you have Recycling Center, the production pollution will also be 1. Thus, with both MT and RC, a city generates a maximum of 2 pollutions each turn, regardless of the size and production level of this city.

Hope that helps. :)

One time I was nuking England, who was being invaded by my Russian and German allies. I couldn't nuke Liverpool due to the BBs that were shelling the coastal improvements- so I'm guessing that nukes WILL wipe them out.

If you have a deal that brings in some gpt, and you gave away a tech. If you break that deal, do you get a reputation hit from it?

I've heard different answers on this.

Well the only way you could break that kind of a deal, is by declaring war on the civ that is giving you the money. So yes :)

If you break any treaty then you will get a rep hit. As goonie said though the only way to break a gpt treaty if by declaring war.

Is there a table of the OCN number given map size and difficulty? (for example, difficulty going down and map size across. I was thinking such a table would be handy. If not, does anyone know how to calculate them? Or where to look them up?

I am also interested in finding a list of the wonders and which attributes they trigger in terms of Golden Ages (at one point I thought I found a pdf file with accurate information, but I can't seem to find it again. The civ fanatics site seems out of date or for civ3 only. This is for PTW. 1.21.

Thanks for any help :)

When I am looking at the info box of the map screen (the bottom left where there is information on the selected unit, etc), there are three numbers after the civilization and government type (for example, "Iriquious - Democracy (3.7.0)"). Can somebody explain what they are?

Also, is a blitz unit a unit that can attack twice in one turm? What are the blitz units besides Modern Armor?

Thanks,
daufoi

1. Democracy (3.7.0) 3 ---> science30% , 7 ---->lux 70% 0----> don't remember :(

2. Sometimes tank can attack twice

1: They are your tax rates. The first means 30% science, the second 70% tax (money) and the third, 0% luxuries.

2: The three blitz units are Tanks, Modern Armour, and Panzers. Tanks have movement two, so can attack twice in one turn, while Modern Armour, and Panzers have movement 3, so can attack 3 times in one turn. (Panzers are the german replacement for tanks)
