Thanks for the help
@nomadic

You might want to check mapstat anyway, for 2 reasons :

1) That 70% is an approximation.
2) The domination limit includes coast as well as land. The number of coast tiles can change significantly depending on the formation of that 30% land.

Just a few questions (far away from each other):
what's vanilla civ
what's IRC
How work the chat ? There's no choice between different discussions?

thanks
and (again) sorry for my english, i will be happy to be corrected

"Vanilla" is simply a way of referring to the plain/original/unmodified version. So Vanilla Civ(3) is plain old Civ3 - perhaps (but not necessarily) patched to v1.29f. It is usually used to differentiate from PTW (and Conquests), but is sometimes used to refer to the "normal" game, as compared to a modification.
what's IRC
Internet Relay Chat. It is really just a protocol that lets people get together in "chatrooms" on the net, and talk with each other.

"IRC is the net's equivalent of CB radio. But unlike CB, Internet Relay Chat lets people all over the world participate in real-time conversations. IRC is where the Net comes alive!"

The different "discussions" are in different chatrooms. For instance, our chat room is #civfanatics. We don't *always* discuss civ in there, but we are always willing to answer civ questions. Folks from this site also run #demogame (for the civ3 Game of Democracy) as well as several others.

Maybe not appropriate for here, i don't care :)

I've noticed that if you edit your post soon after you posted it, then the wee "Last edited by Gainy bo" thing doesn't come up.
How long is it you have to wait between editing and posting for this to appear?

3 minutes :)

FWIW, you have 300 minutes (5 hrs) during which you can change the title of a thread by editing the subject of the first post. After that time, only a moderator can change it. ;)

are you sure? last time I tried to edit a typo it was on the smae evening, so decidedly less - and it didn't work :( (admittedly, I hard post threads anymore, it was a while ago)

me too - i've tried and failed to change the title before!

may this be forum specific? If I try now with a test thread in site feedback - aside from a ban, what would happen? ;)

How many shields is an Army?

Do you get the shield bonus by settling on Bonus Grassland?

What exactly does constitute a rep hit and how does this differ from an attitude hit.

Hmmm. That's the value TF said it was set at. I do know that I've had a similar problem as a mod - I go to change a thread title, but don't change the 1st post subject, before the 5 hrs is up, and the thread reverts to the original title because that's what is in the subject line.

(I edit the title - everything is fine. Then I edit the 1st post to inform the poster of what I did, and the thread title reverts back to the 1st post subject.)

Army is 400 shields.

Shield Bonus is not given when you settle on bonus grassland until you get to size 7. IIRC you get a +1 shild bonus for the city tile if the city tile has 0 shields, so the bonus grassland shield is wasted. Once at size 7 all city tiles get a +1 anyway, so the original +1 bonus (form the bonus grassland) does count extra.

A rep hit concerns ability to do per-turn deals. There are small and large rep hits, I'm afraid you'll have to look up Bamspeedy's report for the full info. An attitude hit means your attitude rating with that civ will suffer. Some attitude hits are permanent, but most are temporary.

Many thanks anarres,

I cant believe the info on number of shields for an army isn't in the Civilopedia.

Also I didnt quite understand your reasoning for the city on BG, but I will accept that it is correct ;)

Thanks again and :goodjob:

downloaded units. set some units up to be made by specific civs only, but it wont work. example... set it up so terrorists can only be made by palestinians... yet when you enter and play the game every civ can build them. what am i donig wrong??? is the computer just ignoring me lol

Ok, say i'm bombarding a unit, with a bombard strength of 4. Does anyone know the chance that it will actually take damage from the unit? Say, how much greater chance would there be of taking a HP from a unit if you had a bombard strength of 6 opposed to 4? Is it based on the defense strength of the unit being attacked?

Also, is the chance of damage the same whether you are manually bombarding a unit, or whether a unit attacks the stack which the siege is in, and it automatically fires? It seems that the siege is more likely to give damage if it is defending rather than if it is the attacker..

The reason I'm asking this is because I'm considering giving some units (non-siege) bombard abilities, kinda like in DYP. ;)
