Hi, Bob.

I think what everone is trying to tell you is that everybody has their own opionions about what is *best*. ;)

For myself, I personally only use "cosmetic" mods, e.g., Snoopy's terrain, pophead moodbadges, etc. I enjoy the basic game so much that after four-and-a-half years, I still don't play mods. Probably the most popular mods here include "Rhye's of Civilization", "The Ancient Mediterranean (TAM)", and "Rise and Rule (RaR)". There are many others out there; some good, some less so. It all depends on what you want. :)
 
Hmmm. Still so new, I don't really know what I want. But that is OK. As another matter, I was just playing a game as the Romans tonight. Thought I was really doing well, and on top all of the sudden, the Americans came at me and conquered one city, then up pops this screen that says I suffered a humiliating conquest loss. I don't get it.
 
That would be an 'Elimination' game. Basically, if you lose a city, you lose your empire.

Not really a Single Player type game, more for quick multiplayer games.

When you start another game, make sure that 'Elimination' is not checked. Or 'blued-in', rather.

Ah, now that makes sense, thanks. See, that is what I was gettting at when I was asking about preferences. Thanks. I am sure I would have kicked but in that game.
 
I'm sure that this question has been asked before, but I'm too tired to sift through 104 pages, so I'll ask it anyway.

Is it possible to get an AI's city to riot? And if so, how do I go about it?

It would work wonders during a war. :evil:
 
Oh yeah, you will see them in smoke too. Have them at war, cut off lux, kill units, pillage resources.
 
Yes, they can riot - however, they don't really, because the AI just changes some citizens to entertainers. However, this can work to your advantage. By making enough of their citizens unhappy, they will need so many entertainers (and they will make them) that the city won't produce much, and will start to starve and shrink population, essentially making it semi-useless.

How to make their citizens unhappy? If they are in Democracy/Republic, make the war long and drawn out. Cut off their luxuries (this one is key). If they draft units, that works too. Experiment around.

Raze or abandon a city with a great wonder in it, and that wonder is gone forever. Can't destroy it via bombardment though.
 
Watch out, there is a bug with the Great Wall, that lets bombardment destroy structures, including wonders.

Ah, thanks, vmxa! That explains what happened in my game a few nights ago. I was bombarding an English town (they had the Great Wall), and my trebs first destroyed a temple and then the Mausoleum of Mausollos. I thought the game had gone crazy. :eek:

I would expect that an AI managing its cities is the same as a human having the governor on with a lot of options checked, such as "Manage citizens moods." If that is true, an AI city will never go into disorder, it will hire clowns instead.

I am not sure though.

Speaking of war, here's a tip:

Give the AI a tech advance which enables them to switch governments (i.e. Republic) the same turn you plan to attack. There's a good chance they will immediately switch to that government.........which means they are now in Anarchy........Yes, even though it's Your turn! Very difficult to rush units and keep the population happy when you're in Anarchy AND under attack! ;)
 
You're not supposed to have to search the thread, just ask. :) (Well, maybe look back a page or two, to be sure somebody didn't just ask the same question. ;))

Probably best is to pillage their luxes, and roads, so they can get worse war wearieness.

That is a good tip, I never looked at it this way! Especially as the AI is allowed to rush a unit in the moment you declare. This should fit nicely with a ROP-abuse...
I also read in a GOTM description how someone used the "gift AI to anarchy"-trick to get the edge in a wonder race.
