@10lire et al: Probably as a result of the so-called 'barbarian uprising', happens whenever you or some other tribe reach a new era.
More accurately, whenever two civs have reached a new era (whether you are one of those two, or not).

Problem; when trying to make settlers early in the game, my citie's population is not large enough to produce them sometimes.

Question:

How to manage early game expansion to maximize settler production without getting into population troubles?

1. Build a Granary.
2. Build cities where there's lots of bonus food.....I.e. Grassland Cows, Wheat on Floodplain.
3. Switch out of Despotism ASAP to get more food.
4. Read up on "4-turn Settler Factories". :)

Can your city grow past a population of 3?

Yes the OCN is modified by the level. It ranges from 100% at Chief to 50% at Sid. I guess the main thing is that it only takes the AI half as many towns to be allowed to build the FP at sid.

I am not real sure how big a deal that is, since they will get to the OCN very fast anyway. Beyond that I am not aware of any corruption breaks.

Using a sheet of 8-1/2x11 sheet of graph paper (10 sq/in) isn't the easiest for sketching my game map because it's tough estimating where my starting location should be (the civ map fits a rectangular sheet in a skewed manner).

I only have MSPaint and don't see how to make a master of an accurate 100x100 tile civ diamond grid. Does anyone have a link or attachment available?

BTW: I checked the art files of the game and found only colored samples of the diamond grid for world generation...not workable for me.

I only have Civ3 v.1.07 & v.1.29.

When I read info. re: Civ3 PTW, Conquests, etc. I'm not sure if it's applicable to Civ3 vanilla.

Is there a comparison somewhere between the diff civ3 titles that would give a general idea of the differences?

I looked and find the differences are mentioned occassionally (rarely) and only in regards to a particular, specific issue.

I'm only really concerned about whatever differences there are that would impact strategy (as opposed to user interface, graphics, etc.).

Thank you.

Ruik there is a thread with the differences in C3 and C3C. I am not sure about PTW. The differences are not great in PTW and C3.

As to mapping, I am not sure what you are looking for. I used to have a pix of all the patterns for up to 21 tiles. I only have the 19 tile one left and it looks like this:

Hi,

As a newbie, I'd like to know how I could customise the Avatar (the little graphic image under my username) at this forum.

Any advice appreciated.

The civilipedia will give you those anwsers, so will the editor. Just in case you do not want to wait for a reply.

vmxa, thanks, but what I'm looking for is to have a photocopy-able sheet of 100x100 diamond hexes....as if it we took a sheet of regular graph paper, rotated it 45 degrees and compressed the squares a bit so they were the same as on a civ map.

Another way of explaining it...give me a screen shot of an entire standard 100x100 map but with no graphics whatsoever...just the grid lines.
