So i did manage to get a Great Leader in my AW game (vanilla) but they wouldn't let me use him for the Pyramids... Why?

Well, since that was a dead end I decided to make a stupid army with him and sent him to a city with 3 of my Immortals...ooops can't build an army either. Why?

so what exactly is the purpose of these stupid things?

Sounds like it might be a bug or something. Got a save?

Opened it without any trouble. The reason you can't build the Pyramids is simple: the Greeks already built it in Athens. :p Also, which unit are you trying to use to build the army? Darius, your GL, is in Pasargadae with two spearmen, and the elite* unit that spawned him is in Tarsus with two other immortals. Just send Darius back to Tarsus, then press B. He should be holding a flag after that, signifying that he's now an army. Select one of the immortals and press L to put him into the army, then repeat with the other two immortals.

They built that one turn before I would have built them. I had 22 turns to go when I tried to use the GL. I have had him sitting around doing nothing for ages now; almost from the beginning of the game.

I moved him to Pasegarde because I was afraid Swazi would fall and I would lose him so I put him in mothballs. I had sent him to Swazi with my 3 Immortals thinking an army could get me that annoying Zulu city that keeps sending SoD's

Sorry about that, then--I thought you'd just gotten him recently. Have you tried building an army again since then?

It's best to try to use the MGL quickly, since you cannot get another one until the first is used.

I tried to use him when I got him but after that there wasn't much to do with him if i couldn't rush a wonder or build an army. And since he didn't work, why would I want another one?

I was also more than a little bit busy and didn't have time to waste on him.

Since I have vanilla, I still can't see why I couldn't rush the Pyramids with him... does anyone know this one? I know about the new way with SGL's for some but Pyramids? Why are they exempted?

If you're in vanilla then you should be able to rush a wonder. Probably you can't because you have tainted shields somehow. You disbanded a unit, or chopped a tree, or rushed something. You'll have to wait until your current build finishes, or move the GL to another city and try rushing it there.

This was answered in Post 4360! The Greeks already built The Pyramids is The Answer. Only one civ can build a Great Wonder. All civs can each build Small Wonders. :)

And if you read the next post, I explained that they built the Pyramids 1 count that as in 0,1 - that is one turn before I did. I tried to use the GL when I had 22 turns to go to build them. If that GL had worked, I would have built them first.

This all goes wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back to the beginning of the game and that leader has been sitting around for at least 3,000 game years.

None of this explains why a GL wouldn't build the pyramids.

does the 1.29 patch make the game think it is Conquests or something.

Is there something about Pyramids that makes them different from other wonders?

I also had the glitch with the Graphics modpack I was using, could that have caused the problem.

No.

No.

Probably not.

It was probably tainted shields. Meaning you chopped a forest, or disbanded a unit, or rushed something and switched builds.

If we could see a .SAV file before The Pyramids were built And you had the Leader, we could probably give you an accurate answer. Is that possible?

In the .SAV you posted, it IS possible to, for example, build an Army Unit or The Palace in the city where the GL is located. (After activating the GL, see the 2 buttons in the bottom line-1 of the Main Map Screen.) Didn't you say you couldn't build an Army Unit? :)

I have no idea why you could not rush the Pyramids; as EMan says, maybe if we could see a save at that point we might be able to help.

On the army isue, maybe you didn't sufficient towns to support an army? (5 needed IIRC)

@Turner: If it was tainted shields, the Pyramids wouldn't even be an option, would they? It sounds as if darski could select the Pyramids but couldn't rush them.
@darski: When I opened your save, I had no trouble building an army. Other than the problem Tone mentioned about maybe not having enough cities at the time, I can't think of anything that would prevent a leader from building an army, and even that shouldn't have kept you from rushing a wonder. This is sounding more and more like a technical problem with your game; you might want to test from the save you posted to see if you can build an army, assuming you haven't done so already.
