Remember also, that for a Culture victory, you need 100,000 CP and at least twice the CP of your nearest opponent. ;)

So, just to recap. In both cases the AI reached 100,000 cps but not twice
my cps, so it couldn't win. But as I was ahead in points, that's why I won
time victories in 2050. Right?
Never knew about the double cps of nearest rival rule. Makes it pretty hard
to win a cultural victory at all. What about city cp's? Is it the same?:)

no for 20k, the only requirement is for you to have a city with 20k culture.
As far as winning a 100k game...I've never done it...and I've heard it takes some pretty extreme measures.

Its not so bad...
You start out as if you where playing a domination/conquest game, then you stop before you actually reach those victory conditions, (or own a big continent) and build temples and cathedrals everywhere.

Then you just hit next turn until the required culture is met.

Extreme measures just make you win earlier.

I know that 100k is for standard, but my old PC just couldn't take the heat, and I got to 162,693 CPs before it realized I had won.

I daresay, the computer did not suffer a lag in knowing when you won.

What happened was that when you first reached 100k, you did not have twice the culture of your opponent. So the game continued, until at some point, perhaps because of a war, or perhaps simply because you were much larger than you competitor, you finally managed to amass more than twice the culture of that civ... but it had taken you 160k to do it.

Just because the computer lags between turns does not mean its computation grows shoddy. It performs calculations like this every single turn, just like it calculates your land and population and checks to see if you've won domination.

Maybe it's 130000 CP for large maps and 160000 for huge maps...

I've never seen one of my nuclear power plants get destroyed (metdown). The game doesn't specify what will happen. Looking other nations cities, looks like it destroys all worker improvements and puts pollution to the 9 squares around the city. Is that it?

I most want to know what happens to any WORKERS (and other units) standing on the 9 squares around the city?

also...
What happens to the city improvements?
What happens to the city population and units in the city?

I haven't seen a nuke hit a city either, are its effects exactly the same as a nuclear power plant meltdown?

I never build nuc plants, so I do not know, but I would expect they are like nuc bombs. Nukes will cut all improvements on the 9 tile radius and cove them with pollution.

It will kill any workers on those tiles and remove 1/3 of all hit points the all units, other than ICBM. This may kill some units like warriors with 1 defense.

Nuclear meltdowns don't destroy improvements around the city, just pollute all the squares.

vmxa I think that it will give each unit a chance, and then kill deal damage according to the results. I've had legions survive and modern armor die, so it kills randomly.

From an ICBM, I doubt those results. I never seen any random factors. If a warrior is an elite and MA is a regular, then it will die after two blast, while the warrior takes 3.

As I said I have no experience with nuc plants, don't see any need to build them.

I don't know what it is, with all the bad press that Feudalism gets. Ok, if I have a good start, that means I'll usually get the Republic slingshot, and then it's Republic.
1. If I'm having a struggle of a start, hardly any food or lux and those things, and that keeps me small, then I'll go for Feudalism, build up some military, and then expand by military means. :ninja: Feudalism seems to me the best way to get over a mediocre start.
2. If I'm behind in techs, I will often research Monarchy rather than Republic since I will often get out of Despotism sooner.
3. If AI's have been aggressive and/or I am behind in techs, I may skip or at least delay getting Republic. Republic's war wariness can be a problem when nearby AI's are aggressive requiring an attack on their territory. If AI is in Republic and war breaks out, it can be a temporay governmental advantage to not be in Republic since the AI's war weariness will grow the longer the AI is in Republic.
4. If I plan to be aggressive, I will often skip Republic and then switch to Feudalism after the war is over.
5. If I get the Great Library, I will bypass getting Monarchy and Republic and head for Feudalism.
6. Feudalism has to be researched and has low war wariness. So you can stay in it longer than Republic when at war before having to switch out of it.
7. If you really want Republic, you can usually research it in fewer turns after researching Feudalism. This is from two reasons:
a. If more AI's have researched Feudalism while you were researching Feudalism it will be much cheaper.
b. Also you usually produce more science by then.

I am having problems in this game. This is abt the 4th or 5th time I have started it the first three because of a complete system crash on my old 'puter. One more thing before asking the question. I don't use cheats, unless a do over is a considered cheat.;)

Now for my problem. I am having to do each of the first three campaigns at least three times before I can win. Now I am doing the Middle Ages campaign and can't even get started. I keep running out of money. Even when I am building new cities, they do not build the treasury or even help me break even. My tech assist is at 50% which will not help me advance that way very fast. If I keep things that way I go broke and start to lose people and buildings. Yet it seems that the AI is making civ advances faster and are not losing income. They are also expanding and building troops. (Sid Meiers cheats big time:mad: )

I wish to add I would like to finish the campaign before I am totally unable to play (old age = 69). I wish I could remember how I did this one beforebut I have a bad case of CRS (can't remember sh-- )

Thank you to each of you who can help.

Oops -- I am playing on chieftain.:(

On Chieftain level you can go broke but there is no penalty if you're running at a deficit

If you post a .sav file of your game here, you'll get plenty of free advice.....pronto! :)

Also, I think going to war early helps with the unit costs, since you will be losing some units (unless you do do-overs every time you lose :crazyeye:)

Oh, I do hope I'll still be able to play 3 1/2 years from now. Do you think my CFC membership will be terminated then? :p

Maybe you also have un-needed buildings in your cities which you can sell to get rid of the maintenance.
