Out of curiosity, what is the reasoning for closing and re-starting the same thread? :)

Thanks Ginger_Ale & Turner. I'm not sure what "Forum server strain" is but I assume it adversely effects the performance of CFC somehow.

Anyways, I always wanted to ask that question every time this thread was closed!............Now, it's off me chest laddies! (Actually I am Half-Scottish in the European [as opposed to the American] sense of the word. :)

As I recall, threads over 3k posts can present problems to the database server. Optimum is under 1k, which is our unofficial cut off. This one's twice that, but still under the 3k limit....so no rush to close it yet. Unless one of my colleagues wishes to do so, which is fine with me. :)

2. No, I think it is for both offense and defense, and it increases them by 25%.

6 defensive, 3 offensive, 1 settler and 2 workers. Note that the units are whatevr the best is that they know, so Germany starts with archers and spears. They make nasty neighbors.

I know they get 2 settlers in total (1 bonus). Not sure what else though. I'd guess a 70% dicount on everything.

Their cost is 70, not the discount. So a 100 shield item cost them 70 shields, a 30% discount. 400 shield wonder is 280 shields for them, so you need a good prebuild.

Hi,

I just started playing Civ III a few days ago. I have tried starting as the Egyptians and the Chinese, and every time I start, I am able to move my settler and my leader, but not my soldier. No matter what I do, he refuses to go anywhere I tell him to, and stays put. I am able to move other soldiers that I produce after I found my first city, however. What am I forgetting/doing wrong?

Thanks

Well, if you're playing a conquests game and are playing 'Capture the Princess' mode, you can't move the princess. You can, however, capture another princess and escort it, with the capturing unit. And, of course, you can recapture your princess and take her back to your city.

Usually you only start out with a Settler and a Worker.
