How many leaders can you have at the time?

If you have a leader of either type, you cannot generate MGLs until you use any existing leader(s) to build an army or rush a city improvement/wonder.

However, having a leader does not stop you getting additional SGLs. (In the past have gained an SGL for Philosophy and another SGL for the free tech.:) )

In other words you can have as many leaders as the RNG gods allow you to have. Only one of them will be an MGL though.

Also note that you can still get multiple MGLs in one turn providing that you use them up as soon as you get them. If you are playing vanilla/PtW then Great Leaders follow the rules for MGLs. i.e. no more than one on the board (for each civ) at any one time.

All I need to know is how to have gold "worked by a citizen." There's no indication of what it means to have a citizen "work a tile" when it comes to gold.

I move a citizen to a gold icon on the map, and there's no option to do anything. I've already built a mine and connected it to my city via roads. How do I further "work the mine?"

@ ap2019 - Are you confusing a worker with a citizen? To work a tile with a citizen you need it within the border of one of your cities. Then zoom to the city and assign one of the citizens to the tile with the gold.

What do the citizens look like on the zoomed in city screen?

What part of the screen are they on (top left, etc.)?

You should see a row of little faces in the centre of the screen, one for each population point the city has. These are the citizens. You move them around by clicking on the map grid in the top middle. If you click on a square already being worked then the citizen stops working, if you click on a square not boing worked then a citizen will start working it. You can work a number of squares equal to the population of the city. Hope that helps.

How do I download BomberEscort's combat calculator? There is no hyperlink that I can find on the page...

It would be better to ask in the thread for that program

It comes with the game. You should have a shortcut in your start/program for it.
If you do not, look in the directiry for Civ3Edit.ex for vanilla. Civ3ConquestsEdit.exe for C3C.

I see that building a Courthouse reduces Waste and Corruption.

Does anyone now the formula for how this is calculated? (In playing, looks like it's about a 10% reduction in "red" commerce, based on the total commerce generated? Shields?) :)

Thanks Turner, I should have known it was not something you could calculate in your head! (Not my head, anyways!)

Don't bother to read through the entire thread, just ask!

ok....
Question: Which is better overall [if possible to calculate], mining the area around a city, or irrigating it?

If it is easier to answer this then do so: which is better for finishing making things [wonders] faster, mining or irrigating?

-Assuming the squares are grassland

Lastly, if the answer is different for plains please say so

thanks

The answer changes through the game. In despotism you should normally irrigate food bonuses while mining ordinary green and irrigating ordinary brown.

Once you switch to a better govt, you want to maximize production. This means that you should irrigate everything possible while mining hills and mountains if you have sufficient food.

......And, make good use of Civil Engineers & Scientific Great Leaders. ;)

They are features in C3C. Civil Engineers are a type of citizen(like Entertainers, Taxmen, etc.), and Scientific Great Leaders are like Military Great Leaders except they appear sometimes when you research a tech first.

To be more precise, at the start of the game you want your cities to grow till they hit their growth cap, once they are there, you need exactly enough food to keep the city from starving (so irrigate only enough to achieve this) and maximize production and commerce.

If your city is on all planes, then you should obviously irrigate it all, except for 2 tiles, so that the total food will be 24 (enough to support 12 citizens) with maximum shields per turn.

When you have railroads, the food from the irrigated plains go up, so then you can afford to switch some more irrigation to mines.

Keep in mind also that in despotism, there is a penalty that removes one from each tile that has 3 or more. Irrigating grassland will not do anything here, because the 2 food from grass turns into 3 with irrigation, then the penalty removes 1 and turns it into 2 food again.
Of course, when a tile already has 3 food (or more) naturally (floodplains, or because of a food bonus resource) then the penalty has already been applied so irrigating such a tile under despotism will help.

Because growth is important in the early game, you should irrigate any tile that can break the penalty. But at later stages (even if you stay in despotism) Irrigate only enough to keep the city stable at its maximum size (usually size 12)

I rarely use Civil Engineers, by the time they come available, it usually no longer matters.
