I'm a bit hazy on this because except for "running out the clock" in the late game for a Histographic Victory, I never worry about generating gold this way.......So, for practical purposes, I think it's pretty useless. :)

I'm of a different opinion on the value of wealth.

When I set up specialist farms, I normally set all farm builds to wealth once I've built enough workers and settlers. I don't consider the one uncorrupted shield per town as being worthwhile for builds as compared to getting +1gpt from each city per turn for wealth. Even with, say, just 100+ specialist farms on a Standard-sized map, the gold really adds up fast.

Of course, economics really doesn't help this strategy because there are not enough shields to matter in fully corrupt cities. The +1gpt from wealth, though, is in effect even with just the one uncorrupted shield per farm town.

I have Conquests.

Can`t find it. It only says:
New game
Quick start
Load game
Conquests
Civ-Content
Hall og fame
Preferences
Multiplayer
Credits
Exit

I think the option only comes available once you've started a new game, and then exit that new game back to the main menu. Loading a game and exiting might also work.

I tried. Didn`t work. Other suggestions?

Is it possible to do it through the editor, for instance? To take up the map from a saved game?

Is it possible to restart a game in Civ3? Eventually start a new game with the same map?

Yes, there is another way besides what's already been mentioned. There are a couple of programs, available in the Utilities forum, called "Seedbeast" and "CivAssistII". Both of these programs will extract the game settings from any save file, and you can regenerate the same map by entering those settings when setting up a "New Game" map.

What version are you playing? The 'play last world' is not available on an out of the box copy of conquests, you have to have v1.22 for that button to show. It is a free update available in the downloads section of this website. 2 warnings though: its a 24 megabyte download, so don't even try with dial-up. Once installed, your old saves are useless, you can't play them.

Overseer, 24 MB is no problem. But if my old saves are useless, I haven`t come any further, because what I`m looking for is to restart one of my old saves :-)

But gmaharriet, can you show me a page where I can find the programs you are refering to?

Is it the same which one I use?
I'm told that Seedbeast is easier to use if all you want to do is extract the map settings. I use CivAssistII because it's useful for so many more purposes.
And in which folder shall I place it?

I put it in my Program Files directory.

Thank you.
I managed to download it, but when I try it it says "failed reading save file". Any idea what it could be?

Are you playing with the latest patch for your respective game? If not, you can get it here, though it might make your current game unplayable (depends on what game you have - is it just normal Civ3, no expansions?).

Thank you.

Which file? Seedbeast or CivAssistII? It might be best to ask your question in the thread from which you downloaded the program. Is your version of Civ fully patched to the latest version?

Seedbeast.

No, it is not patched at all. I bought a three-pack with civ3, play the world and conquests in the store.

There is also variable which includes total culture in that city from the other civ vs. yours.

So the total culture numbers in the city matter most? How does culture expansion figure into this? Does the culture of a neighboring city effect the flip chance of that city?(besides nations total culture #) If so when?
