Thanks Abraxan! I'll have to try the poisoned tech gift strategy some time. I can see it helping in an early war if the enemy had the wall.
Thanks Tone-you guys are awesome and fast!

How do you get the Civ name/adjective to show up after each city name?

Here is an example of what I mean:

While In-game, go to preferences, and then check the box that says something like "color-blind help"

I'm not color-blind, but I use this option too. I also make it so that the civ-specific color ring appears around every unit for easy identification (that's also a box you can check in preferences.)

Thanks!! :goodjob: I was wondering about this. In order to get this, I even went to the extent of adding the adjective into the city names list in the editor, even though I knew it would not change when the city changes hands. :)

If you were feeling particularly clever, you could even sell them the poisoned tech for all of their gold. Then they can't upgrade.

wow....first post in almost 48 hours  :faint:

Ok, so I have a question:
Which computer spec positively effects the performance of CivIII on your computer more: RAM, or processor speed?

definitely RAM, because if there are numerous units scattered and your memory isn't great, It can result in slower performance.

Heres some advice:

Processor powers Quality
RAM powers Quanity

The time between turns has nothing to do with the processor or RAM, and it is the game itself (i think).

I have a question of my own

What does charm do in the cracked civ3 editor?

ANOTHER QUESTION. can mods work in multiplayer?

to the last question: absolutely, but only w/ 8 civs. If the civs are preplaced on a custom map you can still play but only w/ the eight civs of your choice (the other civ's preplaced cities/units will dissapear)

Is there any way (change ini files or re-engineer the exe) to make it so that the random map generator will also generate landmark terrain on the map?

I'm sorry to be a cross-poster but I wanted to make sure I hit the Civ III and Civ IV people!

I want to get a new computer and want to make sure it's totally compatible and can run Civ III/IV at blazing speeds... I get so bummed with the wait time in between turns and the load time towards the end of the game. What should I go really high end on? Just memory and processor or should I also do a high end video card?

If I can get a local shop to build it for me, I was thinking 3Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo E6850, 4G Ram, and a GeForce 8800GT 512MB. Should that be fine for both Civ III and Civ IV?

TIA! :D

hey i hope im posting this in the right section if not, sorry.

so i am trying to make an earth map combining RaR and Rhye's of Civilization, with a few modifications of my own. So i have changed the celts to austria and changed their flavor units to apply to austria instead of celts. I also added a new unit, the grenzer to be their unique unit. However, i must have done something wrong, because when i test the game, it crashes right after building a city. I'm sure this has to do with the Units_32 file, but i dont see any problems. I have copy/pasted the icon for grenzer from rhye's of civ. and set it in the editor. And i know the animations are working because i produced one in debug mode and it was working fine.

I should also note that i made a copy of the RaR file called RaR2, and changed the "Scenario Search Folders" to match it so that any changes i make do not destroy Rise and Rule and i have to re-download as happened last time.

 what does charm do

sorry If im being paranoid but Im just an eager moron :crazyeye:

It does nothing. CivIII was originally based on the Civ2/SMAC engine. There are several hidden references to things that are not used in CivIII, buried in the code.
