You only need 30 posts for a custom avatar, but you also need to have been a member for 30 days.

The High Score list is a plain text file in the civ directory, just make a copy on your USB key.

That is interesting... when I added my custom avatar it said you needed 300 posts. when I just checked, it says that you need 300 posts to have a custom label over your picture but the 30 for 30 is true.

the good news is that I am almost ready for an upgrade anyway at 600 posts

I tried putting PlayIntro=0 in my Conquests.INI but it isn't skipping the intro movie. Am I missing something?

I have, for the last couple years...

Gaah, I just have to wait then.
I believe capture the princess is broken in C3C so don't waste your time with it.
Oh, so it is like that then after all. Didn't they test the game before releasing it? :shake:

Huh? For me it seems to be some of Civilization's own custom file format. Anyway, I've tried pasting in my old list but it didn't work. And now it's caused the game to not add any new records at all. Hmm, I've been thinking... Do you get high scores even on maps that you've created yourself?

Thanks everyone for the answers though! :)

NEWBIE STUCK ON AN ISLAND. brand new player, Civ3 or (any other strategy), addicted and now stuck in my first game at Chieftan. Glad I found this website, interesting reading on things I can't do and am still not ready to think about yet. Anyway - I started a quickstart game (not sure if that is affecting my gameplay) as Romans. I quickly built cities, got to iron working, produced lots of legionaries and wiped out the egyptians. As it turned out, the Egyptions were the only other CIV on the land. It is now 900ad, I am still Despotism and have "wasted 500 years" building stuff and circling my island with 3 galleys. QUESTIONS: (1) How do I get to the middle ages (does it help I'm 10 turns from "Republic") and their technologies? (2) How do I get my galleys to go away from the shoreline? (3) Anything else I should consider to expand the "world" or should I start over? (4) Is the quickstart game affecting the possible outcomes.

1. You have to discover all the technologies that don't have a stop sign on them on the Science Advisor page.
2. Huh? You just move them out of there. But they will sink in the sea unless you have discovered Astronomy. To get out to the ocean you need to discover either Navigation or Magnetism.

Can someone clarify this for me. I want to declare war honourably. Do I need to have zero units in the ememies territory at the beginning of the turn or at the time when I want to declare war?

For example, I am ready to declare war with a civ but I have a galley in their territory. Can I move the galley to neutral waters and declare war, or do I need to wait until the next turn?

I can not rember which is valid.

IIRC, Declare War after you move the Galley out of the AI's borders. Don't think there's any connection to start/end-of-turn-status. ;)

...I want to declare war honourably. Do I need to have zero units in the ememies territory at ...the time when I want to declare war?...
Yes, IIRC. ;)

If you had
• no units in enemy territory at the beginnng of the turn
• units in enemy territory at the time of Dow
this will not give you a rep-hit or anything.

It does also not matter whether you just attack or whether you call the AI up on the diplo screen.

So, if you DO have units in AI territory at the beginning of YOUR move, take them out, and then attack, you get a rep-hit? :)

(I've been playing so much at chieftain [histographic] lately, I've forgotten what war is!) :crazyeye:

Eman, this is exactly what I am not sure of.

Is the stipulation units at the beginning of the turn or units at the moment you declare war?

I always play according to the latter but I have a feeling the former is applicable.

I honestly don't know - might check later though - but it would surprise me if you did. I suppose that the game keeps track of every individual unit and realizes if you move out a unit that was in enemy territory at the beginning of your turn just prior to a DoW.

Maybe I misunderstood you, then. :crazyeye:

Putting the start-of-turn aside, you said that you CAN Declare War with units in the AI and receive NO rep-hit?.........Not sure why you would need to do this unless the units WERE there at the start-of-turn.........in which case you would have received a Warning (but NOT Final Demand) from the AI. :)

You can easily conceive of a situation where there are no units in enemy territory when the turn starts, but are when you Dow. Just use a fast unit to move it one or two tiles into enemy territory to DoW by attacking a city.

I agree.

What I'm saying is, you don't NEED to do that if you're not sure of rep. consequences. (Viz. Declare War first, then move the fast unit in to attack.)

And, since I wasn't sure of the consequences, I would always DOW first, then move the fast units in to attack.

Scratcher's question is a good one and remains unanswered......And I guess along the same lines, if you get a Warning or Final Demand Notice from the AI (for units in their territory), does that affect your reputation? :)

I always had the understanding that declaring war with units in the AI territory was considered ROP rape (i think that was the term) and had an associated rep hit. It didn't matter if you had one or one hundred units in their territory. So if the AI demands you remove troops or declare war I would imagine the same rep hit would apply if you declared war.

The having no troops in their territory at the beginning of the turn would seem to be backed up by being able to declare war by directly attacking a city without a declaration via the diplomacy screen (as described by Lord Emsworth). ie as there were no troops in the territory at the beginning of the turn, a declaration of war by any means can only be honourable.

Which therefore makes me think that the way I have been playing the game for countless years, ie removing warriors vantage points and galleys from sea squares which are within the AI territory, on the same turn but prior to a declaration via the diplomacy screen has been giving me a rep hit.

My question was raised because I couldn't understand why I was not able to strike GPT deals even though I make a point of keeping my rep clean. I was therefore reviewing my playing habits to see if I was doing something basically wrong to damage my rep.

I would like to know if someone could shed some light on this.

Does the AI have gold to trade? I don't know what level you're playing at, but I know that at lower levels, the AI just doesn't have anything with which to pay GPT.
