how do you stop random starting locations on a premade world for civ III? It was easy to select an option on civ II. Civ II also allowed you to create your own civ.
What gives?

Go into the civ editor and look for the 4 buttons with small symbols on them in the top middle of the screen, and then choose the third one to the right, select "starting location" or something like that, and then place it where you want it to go. Right-click on it and select "reassign" and choose the civ or player you want it to be for.

Would someone please provide me a link to a how-to guide for creating PBEM games with a custom map. Thanks

Yes, I am thinking of venturing into the world of map making, wish me luck.

Don't get stuck on the PBEM part, making a map for them is no different than making a map for a normal game. I too wish you luck! :)

Is it possible to turn off "Wonder Victory" ingame? I was just defeated due to that silly victory condition.

It happened to me once, I reloaded and didn't build the wonder. Was it an AI that built it in your game?

Its not on in standard games (unless you turned it on on game creation) so I guess you are playing a a scenario? In that case, its supposed to be a part of the challenge not to get defeated that way! ;)

I think that if you play a scenario then start an epic game, the VCs of the scenario will apply to your game.

iam playing vanilla and the game isn't not lower then the map the file is bic i read some were that i had to unzip it in the scenarios file before i can play it thats the part i dont get

Okay, the file you downloaded needs to be unzipped. I believe windows XP and greater has the ability built in. (Right-click on the file and use Extract All) If that's not an option look around online for an appropriate tool for your system. Once the file is decompressed (unzipped), look for where Civ3 is installed on your computer and look for the scenarios directory, there should be a bunch of .bic files in there that have names that appear in the scenarios menu in game. Put your new file there, restart Civ3 (just in case) and it should be there in the list.

I hope it helps.

Guess what I did... In my defense, I didn't knew what it did.

Yeah, It was an AI who built it. Maybe I should reload an autosave, and nuke them to dust? It would probably be a bit difficult though, as they're bigger than me, and more advanced.

I created a folder on my comp called CIVics that I use to save and then open all my zips and other stuff for my Civ Game. I keep all my backups here for graphics modpacks etc. I'm just suggesting that it can be an easy place to put stuff while you decide what to do with it.

Quite often, I have noticed something inetersting in my games...

When I play as an Ind. Civ on a tiny map; the other 3 Civs will also be Ind. i have seen the same thing with expansionist trait as well and on occasion, I noticed all military.

Is this indeed a random effect or does the program start from that "trait" base?

It happens more often than not in Vanilla on a tiny map so that I have noticed it. I don't pay a lot of attention to stuff like this unless something catches my eye and then I start to look for it.

I don't think it's a coincidence. If you have "culturally linked starting positions" turned on, you will almost automatically get the American group. I would turn that off if you don't want to see some combination of Maya/Inca/Aztec/America in all of your games.

I never have that on and it is not a cultural link it is by traits. If I play as Persia (IND and sci) I am not surprised to find:
China, (IND+mil)
Egypt (IND+rel) and
America (IND+exp).

Darski: Sorry, I misunderstood you. I usually play standard maps, and I've never noticed this, so maybe it's just a tiny map thing.

It seems like there is a non-randomness to the random selections in who your opponents are. I've noticed that you tend to get opponents that have similar traits when you have "random opponents". If you are America, expect to see other EXP civs (Mongols, Zulu, Russia, Hittites, Portuguese, etc.) or other IND tribes (Persia, France, Egypt, etc.). Maybe it is "cognitive bias" on my part, but maybe not.....

I meant to test it last night, but forgot. I tried searching just now but I'm tied of being told I need to wait before I can search again.

edit:

Ha! got it. Here's a snippet from SirPleb (applies to C3C 1.15b) taken from this post in his legendary Going for Sid game.

I was surprised to find that mobilization didn't allow me to complete current non-military builds. Before mobilizing I reviewed all towns and started one last non-military build in a number of them, expecting to finish these while mobilized. They were all automatically changed to build military units. Oh well.

I was also surprised (and a bit annoyed) to find that the production of a number of allowed things did not get the mobilization shield bonus. These things included barracks, harbors, workers, settlers, and even cannons and armies! So I ended up setting many of my cities to build Medieval Infantry as prebuilds, and reviewing them every turn for those which were ready to be flipped to complete as Cannons or Settlers. Where I wanted to build Harbors I built Frigates and similarly flipped them when ready.
